  • Shockers v Eastern Washington

    Shockers 62-67 Eastern Washington

The Shocks did not play enough defense to give themselves a solid chance in this one. The Hawks outscored them to start each of the first three quarters, and the Shockers spend the rest of the quarter almost catching up. The EWU lead was twelve after three quarters. We did not guard the three well all night long. The Hawks were 9 of 20 from behind the arc and 46% overall. EWU had more turnovers but they also had more rebounds

The Shockers were 37.5% overall and 38.5% deep. But Rangie taking over half of your three-balls cannot be a good sign. The Hawks mostly played a 2-3 matchup zone with some man thrown in occasionally. And just like last year, we did not attack it particularly well. A trapping half-court press led to a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and got the Shockers back in the game, as close as three with 6:26 to play. But poor offensive decisions and execution kept them from ever completely closing the gap.

Jaleesa has to contribute more on offense or become the absolute shut-down defender. Marija's lack of defense tonight kept her on the bench most of the night, and the Shocks need her offense, too.
