  • Lady Shocks vs Western Illinois (Softball DH)

Lady Shocks must be drinking from the same Gatorade cooler as the Shocker Baseball team.

The Shocks scored two in the bottom of the 7th to tie Game 1 at 3-3.

The ITB was put in place in the 8th and WIU scored the runner from second and had a runner on 3rd with one out. Ashely Bright struck out the next two batters to snuff out any furhter damage.

In the bottom of the 8th Katie McGeeney promptly plated the tieing run with a triple then scored the winning run on the next at bat.

Shocks win game 1 in a thriller 5-4.

Western Illinois has fallen to 1-13 on the year with the loss to the Shocks in Game 1 with their only win over Kansas this past weekend by a 4-3 score. However, they have been pretty competitive in just about all of their games against pretty decent competition.

What a wild and wooly afternoon at Wilkins Stadium.

Shocks, apprently trying to save their frontline pitching for a DH with Missouri tomorrow, start Cynthia Verhulst (10.19 ERA) in Game 1.

Shocks jump out to a 2-0 lead but Cynthia gave up a 4-Spot in the top of the 3rd. Seldom used Freshman Jamie Hull (6.46 ERA) relieved Cynthia a did OK, but did give up solo runs in the 5th and 6th as WIU jumped out to a 6-2 lead with two at bats remaining for the Shocks.

Shocks scored 2 in the bottom of the sixth to get back in reach.

In the bottom of the 7th Seniors Britnee Barnett and Cynthia Verhulst go back-to-back-jack to tie the game.

Moving into the 8th inning again using the ITB (each team starts with a runner on second).

Ashley Bright now pitching for the Shocks.

Wow! Britnee Barnett with a clucth, clutch 2-out, 2-run walk off single to win for the Shocks 8-7.

Now that was two very entertaining games. Wished I could have been there.

Two exhilarating comeback wins for the Shocks. Two heartbreaking losses for WIU.

In reading the write-up on goShockers.com, Britnee's game winning single in the second game was apparently a ball hit to the shorstop that she just barely beat out, but allowed 2 runs to score.

I don't know if it was a slow roller, or a ball in the hole or up the middle, but what a way to win a game. (or lose won, if you are WIU).
