Interesting... Hoop joining WSU softball staff

Had anyone heard rumblings of this? Article says he will stay at the helm of the Wingnuts, in addition to this new role at WSU.

Dude's job title should really be Head Coach - Wichita State Baseball, but I guess that is another discussion.

Interesting. Anything that can keep Hooper tied to Wichita and associated with WSU is a great thing in my book.

And according to the headline, he's a graduate (in case that was still on anyone's mind).

I too was mystified why Hoop didn't get more serious consideration. Not only does he clearly have a great eye for finding talent, he is tireless at developing his Wingnut players. When TB was hired I hoped he might snag Hoop as an assistant, but I honestly didn't expect it. If TB doesn't pan out, I do hope that they give Hoop consideration if he is still interested. Also isn't Standiford up at Tabor and doing VERY well?

So, he will complete the current Wingnuts season, then what? The article never says he will continue with the Wingnuts in the future. Don't see him long as a Volunteer Assistant.

I wondered how long my post would last in the baseball forum (an intentional, smart-ass move on my part).

I'm supposed to set an example. I deserve a reprimand.

At least I didn't post another article about paywalls. ;)

                      Yes... but it is Tabor.

Even so. He is still competing above the level of his peers at that level.

Totally agree. He either is recruiting players who should play at a higher level than Tabor, or he's taking players that should play at the level of Tabor and improving them so much they're that much better. Either way, Standiford is doing something VERY right at Tabor regardless of the level.

Brian Kelly HC of Notre Dame football was the HC at Grand Valley State for like 10 years before venturing to Central Michigan. Tressel spent years at Youngstown. I know I'm using football coaches for this example, but good coaches win at every level.

Good point about great coaches, kai. I personally think Hooper is a superior coach / manager, and I'm delighted to see him associated at WSU. No doubt in my mind he'll help make the softball team better. Baseball and softball aren't exactly poles apart.

I always wished Stephenson would have looked to Tim Walton as an assistant to inject some new blood into his program, but that ship has obviously sailed in a number of ways. Now, I hope Hoop (try saying those two words out loud together a few times) also remains available for baseball when the time comes.

                              Ho poop?

What made you even think of trying to do that?

                              Disturbing.
