The NCAA limit for wind is 4.0 mps (meters per second). Most of the races at the MVC meet were below and considered legal for NCAA purposes.

It gets confusing because the international limit is 2.0 mps. The reason the NCAA limit is higher is because 2.0 is only about 5 miles per hour and it's hard to find meets in the spring in many parts of the country below that number.

So for MVC record purposes the times from this weekend count. If they had broken a national or world record they wouldn't.

17 Shocker athletes (7 women and 10 men) will be competing in 20 events in the NCAA West preliminaries in Austin, Texas on May 28-30.

      Nikki Larch-Miller (100h + LJ + 4x100) and Taylor Larch-Miller (100m + 100h + 4x100) will each be competing in 3 events.

Nikki has already qualified for the National Championship meet in the heptathlon in Eugene, Oregon on June 10-13.

Great article by Sully on the Larch-Miller twins:

Very high praise of Coach Rainbolt perhaps the most unsung of our Shocker coaching tree. Maybe Coach Bolt relates so well to Nikki and Taylor because he has twin daughters himself. In any case another great hire by Jim Schaus.

Sounds like they could be dodging raindrops in Austin during the meet so it remains to be seen if they will be able to keep everything on schedule.

Nora Zajovics did not qualify for the quarterfinals in the 400 hurdles. She ran a 1:02.66 which is well off her best time of 55.99. However, the fastest qualifying time was 56.90 so could be the race was not run under ideal conditions. Good experience for the Shocker sophomore from Hungary.

Taylor Larch-Miller just missed qualifying for the 100M quarterfinals by .012 seconds. She ran an 11.492 vs her season best of 11.47 which would have been good enough to move on.

I think Nikki finished 19th in the field of 48 in the long jump at 19'10.75". Only the top 12 advance to the national tournament. Still a pretty solid showing for a multi-eventer.

Taylor Swanson has cleared 12-7.25 and 13-1 in her first two attempts. Her season best has been 13-3 which was about middle of the pack of he 48 competitors in the West. Next height is 13-7. That will be quite a challenge for Taylor.

12 competitors failed to clear 13-1.

Update: Not surprisingly Taylor failed to clear 13-7 and will finish in the middle of the pack as expected and will not advance.

Both Taylor and Nikki qualified in the 100 Hurdles and will advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow at 7:05 PM with a shot at advancing to the Nationals in Eugene.

Taylor qualified with the 10th fastest time in the first round while Nikki was 13th fastest. The top 3 from each of 3 heats plus the 3 other fastest times tomorrow evening will advance to Eugene.

Good luck Taylor and Nikki. It would be great if Taylor could join Nikki as a competitor in Eugene. Nikki is already qualified in the heptathlon.

I wonder if running the 4x100 relay at 6:00 PM and the coming back an hour later to run the 100 hurdles will be an issue for Nikki and Taylor or just a good warm up.

Sidney Hirsch ran a 10:25.96 in the 3,000M Steeplechase finishing. That will not advance her but she did knock off about 4.5 seconds from her season best.

Shanice Andrews finished 18th in the field of 48 with her triple jump of 41-1.5

Not a bad performance for the Shocker senior. She still has an outside shot at a trip to Eugene as part of the Shocker 4x100 relay team at 6:00 PM
