The Shocker women have been picked to finish 2nd behind Indiana State in the upcoming Valley Outdoor Championship meet this weekend in very close voting. Indiana State received 6 first place votes and a total of 78 votes and the Lady Shocks picked up the other 3 first place votes and were at 75 votes. This should be a very fun meet to follow or attend if you have the time and inclination to travel to Normal, Illinois.

The final form chart on the women's side has Indiana State at 165 and Wichita State at 160 and SIU the only other school to chart out over 100 points at 123.
Of course, the form chart's won't actually tell the tale.
The javelin is the big event for both the Shocker women and the Shocker men.

The women could get a similar edge from Jenny Pinkston in the heptathlon. Pinkston, who finished third in the pentathlon in the MVC indoor meet with 3,702 points, has been limited by an ankle injury in the outdoor season. She will compete this weekend and duplicating last season’s sixth-place finish (5,012 points) would be a bonus. “It appears she's coming around and it appears she might be able to jump up and give our team a boost,” Rainbolt said. “She could be a way significant part of our championship.”
Heptathlon leader Nikki Larch-Miller will not compete in that event. WSU will try to maximize her point-scoring potential by entering her in the 100 meters, 200, the 100 hurdles, long jump, javelin and both relays. She owns the MVC’s top performances in the 200 (23.23 seconds) and is second in the 100 (11.44), the long jump (19-7 1/2) and the 100-meter high hurdles (13.29). Twin sister Taylor Larch-Miller ranks first in the high hurdles (13.19) and second in the 400 hurdles (59.23).Comment

WSU, INS and SIU all performed exactly to form in the Hammer Throw with SIU dominating that event scoring 23 points while WSU and INS where scoreless as expected.
After the 1st day of Heptathlon events (100H, HJ, SP, 200M) the Shocks are sitting just about as expected. The Heptathlon will wind up tomorrow with the LJ, JT and 800M.
The only other events to be scored today will be the Javelin where the Shocks are counting on big points and the 10K run to close out the day.
The Lady Shocks did not qualify any runners into the 1,500M finals but they were not expected to score in that event.
Nikki Larch-Miller qualified with the fastest time in the 200M dash but Fr. Deja Young just missed qualifying and I think the Shocks were hoping for a point or two from Deja.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 15, 2015, 06:08 PM.Comment

As expected the Lady Shocks racked up 26 points in the javelin as they finished 1 Andrea Navarro - 3 Kelsey Tenbrink - 4 Breanne Borman - 5 Nikki Larch-Miller and 8 - Madelyn Halstead.
Most impressively none of those 5 where seniors. Andrea and Kelsey are freshmen. Breanne is a sophomore. Nikki and Madelyn are juniors.
Shocker senior Samantah Wyatt finished in 9th one spot out of the scoring.Comment

Lady Shocks with a big performance in the high jump finishing 1. Breanne Borman - 2. Ashley Peterspn - 3. Haley Griffin all who cleared 5-07.00
That collected a whopping 24 points. 15 points above the from chart expectation of 9 points. Huge.Comment

Day 2 is in the books and after the Lady Shocks big high jump performance and with 12 events to go the projected scoring has the Lady Shocks targeted at 173 points to 155 for Indiana State and 126.5 from Southern Illinois.

Nikki Larch-Miller was the meets Most Valuable Women's Athlete scoring 40 points for the Lady Shocks. Loyola's entire team scored 27 points.
Coach Rainbolt of course was the Women's Coach of the Year.
The nice thing is we have Nikki, her twin sister Taylor and a whole bunch of these Shocker athletes back next year.

In the 100 hurdles, Nikki Larch-Miller broke the MVC All-Time record, MVC Meet record, and ISU Facility record. Nikki Larch-Miller won with a time of 13.08. Her sister Taylor Larch-Miller took second with a time of 13.21. Both were personal bests and Nikki's time re-claimed the WSU school record from her sister.
Shanice Andrews, Deja Young, Nikki and Taylor Larch-Miller broke their school record with a time of 45:23 in the 4x100 meter relay.Comment

congrats on the women's team title, you guys had too much depth for us today.
Question though, how will the MVC handle all the meet and all time MVC records set this weekend given they were all wind aided. Will they give everyone the records, then put an asterisk by the records indicating they were all wind aided? There were at least 3 set, women's 110 hurdles, men's 100, and men's 200. All were severely wind aided.Comment

I assume the Valley will follow whatever prescribed standards are in place.the maximum legal wind assistance is 2.0 meters per second. If the runners of a race receive more wind assistance than this, their times will not be eligible as collegiate, national, or world records.Comment
