  • Lady Shocks Outdoor Track & Field 2015

Nikki Larch-Miller won the 100M dash at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge in California on Saturday with a time of 11.44 seconds to set a new Wichita State record breaking Audacia Moore's 10.51 set in 2011. This was also the 5th fastest time in the nation so far this outdoor season.

Nikki also won the long-jump with a leap of 19-6 and finished 2nd in the 400M hurdles at 59.99 and she was on the 2nd place Shocker 4x100 relay team.

It will be very interesting to see what kind of numbers Nikki will be able to put up in the pentathlon this season.

Nikki's twin sister Taylor won the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 13.68 while Sidney Hirsch won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:33.50. WSU's Kayla Deighan finished second in the steeplechase in 10:40.69. Taylor Swanson rounded out the women's titles with a win in the pole vault after she cleared 13-01.5. A 13 foot vault is a very solid vault in college women's T&F.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Nikki Larch-Miller broke the Wichita State school record in the 100-meters today with a time of 11.44 at the Mondo Invitational, the second school record that fell in California.

Nice interview with Nikki and also Brady Johnson who set a new WSU record in the 5k on the men's side that you can link to in the above article.

Congratulations to Nikki and Brady on their outstanding performances.

Nikki Larch-Miller was at it again Saturday at Cessna Stadium as she set a new Wichita State and Missouri Valley Conference record in the 100-meter hurdles Saturday at the K.T. Woodman Track and Field Meet. Nikkie won the race in 13.29, besting Lindsay Eck's 2005 record of 13.37. Her time is tied for 15th in the NCAA this season.

Nikki Larch-Miller is becoming a bit of a broken record when it comes to breaking records. For the 3rd week in row Nikki set a new WSU record this time in the 200M dash at the Mt. SAC/California Combined Events Invitational. Her 23.23 effort surpassing the 23.51 standard set by Audacia Moore in 2011.

Nikkie now holds the WSU records in the 100M, 100H and the 200M. After day 1 of the Heptathlon she sits 2nd overall and is the leading collegiate athlete.

At the end of Day 1 and 4 events (100H, HJ, SP and 200) Nikki was in second place with 3,445 points and trailed the leader, Kaylon Eppinger, a former Alabama athlete now competing for the World Athletics Center, by 225 points.

This is in a field of 50 athletes.

After the 1st two events today (LJ and JT) Eppinger is still leading with 5,010 points but Nikki has closed to within 64 points at 4,946 with the 800m run remaining.

Jessamyn Sauceda, a 25-year old athlete from Mexico, is right behind Nikki at 4,915 points.

Colorado University's Abriana Torres is in 4th at 4,770 points.

Unfortunately, Shocker Breanne Borman who was 7th after Day 1 with 3,194 points fouled on all 3 of her LJ attempts and failed to put up a score in that event which pretty much does you in.

I really don't know how strong Nikki is in the 800. Her strengths seem to be more in the sprints but should be an interesting finish.

The 800m run is now complete and I have the unofficial tallies as follows:

          1. Kaylon Eppinger (World Athletics Center) - 5,863
          2. Nikki Larch-Miller (Wichita State) - 5,812
          3. Jessamyn Sauceda (Mexico FMAA) - 5,699
          4. Abrianna Torres (Colorado) - 5,545

That is the 2nd best heptathlon score in Shocker history trailing only the 5,899 total registered by Tanya Friesen when she finished 5th at the NCAA National Championships in 2013.

One damn fine performance by the California girl in her home state.

Update: Those totals are now official.

So far I have not been able to get anything from the live stat links provided for the RockChalk Invitational. Not an uncommon thing for track events. Perhaps the best way to get updates is from the Shocker Track & Field tweeter reports.
