Over her final 4 games of her career in the Valley Tournament and the NCAA Tournament and after having played in 29 games averaging 37 minutes a game Alex averaged 20.8 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 2.3 APG, 5.0 SPG and 1.0 BPG for a combo average of 35.9 per game and played 152 of 160 minutes. About 20% above her already outstanding combo average over the full season.

Considering the style of play the Shockers employed the stamina and mental toughness Alex and her fellow starters showed this year was a little bit mind boggling.

As I have said, i've seen a lot of womens and mens basketball this season and Alex is easilly in the top 10 in country. She could play for and against any team in the country and she would show she belongs on the floor. We truly were blessed and I'm sure we'll be talking about Alex for years to come.

Please forgive me if this has previously been discussed, but is there merit to giving consideration to retiring her number?

Yes. See post #9 above. Also discussed in a couple of places IIRC but nothing too extensive.

While Alex's stats are great and reflect on what a terrific all-around player she was I thought it was interesting that he her comments about Alex, Missouri State Coach Harper (#15 above), while acknowledging that Alex good do so many things well on the basketball court, she kept coming back to Alex's poise and leadership that made the Shockers good.

It is one thing to put up great numbers but when you can do that and still have opposing coaches giving you props on your poise and leadership you know you really experienced a special player.

I have to say though that I am very biased when it comes to Alex. I just fell in love with her game and enjoyed her Shocker career immensely. Not only an outstanding basketball player but also an outstanding young lady who represented Wichita State and our community with class and dignity.

That class and dignity was shown in many ways but I honestly don't know that I can remember an instance where Alex reacted poorly to an officials call and believe me she had plenty of chances. No shaking her head, rolling her eyes, frowning or otherwise challenging the call. She just would go on to the next play. Maybe that was because she was always thinking at least two steps ahead of everyone else on the floor. Not only did she not show up the officials I can't recall her ever showing up an opponent. An occasional somewhat restrained fist pump was about all she would show. Never would do anything to bring attention to herself other than simply play great basketball.

Yes, I believe Alex belongs in the rafters at some point. I hope someday we get a player to rival and perhaps even exceed Alex but that is a very, very high bar when you take the whole package into account.

Alex's parents have to be very proud of the daughter they raised and I thanked them at the Senior night reception in the Champions Club for sharing Alex with us these past 4 years.

Alex and Tekele; it doesn't get much better than that.

I definitely expect that Alex and Tekele will be inducted into the Shocker Hall of Fame together. They will be eligible at the same time and I can't imagine the they aren't both unanimous 1st ballot inductees. That would be a fantastic night 5 years from now.

2 of the hardest working and selfless winners to ever wear the black and yellow. 7 NCAA Tournament appearances between the two of them. Tekele the only player to play in 4 NCAA Tournaments and Alex leading her team to their only 3 NCAA Tournament appearances in school history.

I can't tell if Alex is being inducted or just honored. Was she a late addition?

Very short notice but I may try to run out their and see if I can get in. It is free of charge.

Hillside Christian is one block east of Rock Road on Douglas.

Edit: I see where it says you must have made a reservation in advance. That might be a little difficult this late in the game.

I attended. She was well spoken and very proud of this honor. Did Shocker fans proud. Several teammates were on hand as was Jody, who sat in the pew behind the players. Maybe a little awkward. The only disappointment was the whole women's Shocker group left immediately after Alex's induction, which was near the front of the program. Alex stayed for all the inductions. Former Shocker Ernie Moore was honored, although he was too sick to attend. WSU athletic department was honored as the "Organizational" induction.

Thanks for the report. Was Alex a late addition to this year's inductees? If so, when did this happen? The first I heard of it was today at around Noon from the above post by @WuDrWu:

What kind of crowd did they draw?

I don't know when the committee approved her induction. Honestly, I didn't know till I read the paper this morning. I went mainly for Ricky Ross. Guess what...a no show. Typical Ricky. Greatest HS player I ever saw...period. He has been a troubled man since. Sad story. But I regress. It was great to see Alex. She is a class act. There were 300 in attendance...maybe.
