Hitz drilled a 2 out single, CF overthrows 2nd base and runner is thrown out trying to advance to 3rd. Looked like a bad call. Replay totally confirms my first thought, even sans glasses. 2-1 Shocks bottom 3.
Spring sails one to first to give the Longhorns 2nd and 3rd with just 1 out. Short fly out and Jenni has a chance to get out of the inning. A double, UT's first hit of the game, makes it 3-2 Horns.
I can hay-alp. (Wasn't there a commercial with that line in it?)
In the Texas fourth, a leadoff single is followed by a run-scoring double and Katie is on to pitch. The Shockers escape further damage with Melanie getting an unassisted out at the plate. A squeeze play gone wrong? Or just a dribbler in front of the plate?
Horns lead 6-2 after four.
No base runners for either team in the fifth. Still 6-2.

In the Shocker sixth, Brittany reaches on an error and advances to second on a wild pitch. Macklin then drives her home with a double. With two outs, Liz gets an infield single to move pinch runner Hunter Hogan to third. Erin pinch hits for Layne but strikes out.
Shocks trail 6-3 as we go to the bottom of the sixth.
The wheels kind of come off for Katie in the Texas sixth. Single, single, home run and the score is 9-3. The Horns add another with a single, stolen base, wild pitch and single.
The Shocks score in the seventh, but it is not enough. Paige leads off with a pinch-hit double. Cacy is hit by a pitch and an error on Melanie's ground ball load the bases with no outs. After Macklin's sac fly for the second out, Mackenzie is also hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Kelli then grounds into a fielder's choice to end the game.
Kelsey has the start against IPFW with the cast of regulars in the rest of the spots. Is Ashlynne hurt? I would have expected her to get this start with no appearances yet this weekend.
Each team gets a runner in the first (them, a walk; the Shocks, a two-out single by Brittany) but neither team scores. I don't think the Mastodons can beat us, but playing a team of this calibre after just playing Texas is not how you would draw up a schedule.
The Shocks score three in the second. Mackenzie singles and steals second. Kelli follows with a single and steals a base of her own. Liz doubles in the two runs and is driven in by a single by Cacy.
There has been a delay since the last post because ... Oh, well, I will try to summarize.
IPFW had a single, sac bunt and single in the top of the third, but Ashley threw the runner out at the plate.
The Shocks scored a nine-spot in the bottom half. Highlights were a two-run homer by Macklin followed by an inside-the-park homer by Mackenzie on the very next pitch. Kelli doubled and was driven in by a double by Liz. Erin had a pinch-hit two-run triple. When the dust settled, the Shocks had a 12-0 lead.
In the Shocker fourth, Kennedy Long gets an RBI-double and is singled home by Bailey Holt. Both are area products; Kennedy played at Derby and Bailey played at Mulvane.
Kelsey retires the side in the fifth.
IPFW 0-14(5) Shockers
Kelsey gave up two hits and two walks.
Liz had two doubles and three RBI. Macklin also had three RBI. Brittany, Mackenzie and Kelli also had two hits among the sixteen hits of the Shocks.
We close out the tournament with another game against the Mastodons on Sunday at 1230pm or 1pm, depending where you read.
