  • K-State in the Round House

Though I believe K-State is still undefeated it doesn't appear they have played tough competition. Bottom line, they haven't lost, have a new coach and don't expect to lose to the Shox. We need to have a solid game out of our starters and at least two bench players. I think they will bring some fans, but I will be shocked if it is the 5000 that was reported earlier.

They haven't played a tough schedule at all. K-State's SOS is at 256. The Shock's SOS isn't great at 187 but quite a bit better than K-State's. They have 5 wins over D-1 opponents all of whom have sub-500 records. They also have a win over D-II William Jewell College.

The William Jewell game was a late addition after KSU had games against Santa Clara (RPI 186) and LSU (RPI 210) at the Hardwood Tournament of Hope in Puero Vallarta, Mexico cancelled due to a facilities conflict of all things. I guess it is named the Tournament of Hope because they hope the facility will be available to play in but can't be sure.

K-State wasn't all that impressive in its last 2 games beating Texas-Arlington 45-41 and D-II William Jewell 66-53 on its home court.

OTOH, the Shocks were not very impressive in their last game, a 55-26 home win over a bad Arkansas-Pine Bluff team.

Bottom line is I'm not sure what to expect from this game. The Shockers will certainly need more than just Alex, Jamillah and Michaela to show up. They can get way with that against the likes of Arkansas-Pine Bluff but I doubt that's a recipe for success against KSU and it certainly won't fly when they travel to Tennessee.

My preseason prediction for the Shocks was that they would go 9-3 in the non-conference part of their schedule. If they are going to reach that then the KSU game is a must win.

Good report as always. I couldn't agree more. Kelsey is capable of scoring, but won't score if she only takes 3 shots. She can drive to the hoop and has a decent 15 footer. Allie needs to shoo with confidence. I think Kayla can score, but I sometimes wonder why she is in as she seems to get a bit lost at times. We need seven players clicking on all cylinders.

Not sure that was ever a real possibility or just an embellishment in an attempt to motivate Shocker fans. I agree with @oldtimewomen's hoopcoach: that I would be very surprised if 5,000 KSU fans show up for this game. However, I would not be surprised at all with a 50-50 crowd of Shockers vs K-Staters.

Do they have any promotions for the game on Friday night such as family pack tickets?

                  Wichita Eagle game day article.

Shocks will have to shoot the ball well from the perimeter to beat K-State's zone defense and perhaps get an above average number of transition baskets off of their defense.

Tonight's game is in Cox Channel Kansas TV. That might have some impact on how well the game is attended.

WSU and KSU have one common opponent. The Shocks defeated Texas-Arlington 71-61 in Koch Arena and the Wildcats defeated UTA 45-41 last week in Manhattan FWIW.

Only 2 sections are reserved. Center 2 sections on the west side. Everthing else is GA. Just don't sit in usual seats. Makes me crazy when I get there 30 minutes prior to tip off and someone's there. Almost never happens though. Seriously though, Glad to have you at the game, hope it's the first of many. We can use the attendance.

They are doing the early student tickets tonight as well, like they did for the Creighton game. So expect to see more students.

If your circumstances dictate, the game is also available on ESPN3.
