  • "Outwork" - Wichita State WBB Prepare for the 2014/15 Season

You got to like the grit and determination of this team. One game in the NCAA tournament will not be good enough for them.

“Boot camp is all mental,” Adams said. “Usually, you build your team mentally as you go through the year. Our non-conference is so tough, we’ve got to be there, mentally, from the beginning.”

Check out the notes at the bottom of the Eagle article linked in the above post.

Former Heights and Butler County Community College guard Ashlee Ivy is not on the team this semester due to academic issues. She is taking a class now with the goal of enrolling at WSU for the spring semester. Ivy, Adams said, would not play until the 2015-16 season.

Freshman guard Anna Khmelevskaya returned to her home in Russia this week due to a family emergency. Adams is unsure when circumstances will allow her to return. So at this point not only do we not know what Anna's eligibility is we also don't know whether or not she will even be a Shocker.

Looks like we have a tough competitor in Aundra Stovalll. This team is going to be fun to watch.

Tennessee coming to Wichita in 2015-16 season. That will be a real challenge with Harden, Bonner and Jacobs to replace. But it's great to get that kind of a game at Koch Arena.

It will be tough to top the 2015-16 season’s marquee visitor. Tennessee will visit Koch Arena as part of a home-and-home series that begins this season on Dec. 16 in Knoxville.

It looks like we will be down a bit in numbers. Were Ashlee and/or Anna expected to be contributors this season?

Another sign that the program is taking big steps forward. I love the fact that due to our NonCon sked and the level of talent and recognition that we have that we can realistically state that we could be considered as having a legitimate shot at an at large berth in the tourney.

I believe Ashlee was definitely being looked at as a contributor, maybe even a starter. I have no idea about Anna. Never did hear about her eligibility status.

Keep in mind that we only lost one key contributor off of last year's squad and neither of these players play that position, so while it hurts our depth at one level, we shouldn't be any worse off than last year at those positions.

I think the key to our depth this year will be how much can Moriah, Jaleesa and Kayla step up their games in the sophomore years. Jaleesa Chapel had the strongest freshman season of those 3 and should be able to spell Jamillah and Big Dap quite well.

Filling the shoes of the one key member we lost to graduation, Michelle (The Motor) Price, will not be easy. It would seem like that will be up to Brittany Martin and Baby Dap to try to do the honors.

Sounds like incoming freshman Audra Stovall may well be up to the challenge of backing up Alex at the point and perhaps freeing up Jody use Alex in a greater variety of ways.

At this point it appears we have 10 players on the roster, 11 assuming Anna Khmelevkaya is still in the mix and eligible.]

Alex, Jamillah, Micheala, Alie and Kelsey will probably start backed up by Audra, Jaleesa, Kayla, Moriah and Brittany (and maybe Anna).

Unfortunately, it is now official that Anna Khmelevskaya will not play for the Shockers this year. It sounds like a very bad situation for her half-sister. Coach Adams did leave the door open that Anna could return to the team in the future. Anna and her half-sister are in our thoughts and prayers.

Too bad, but I admire Anna for putting her dreams on hold and putting her family first. Best wishes to Anna, her sister and her family.

on a personal level, very sad and the right choice for Anna to care for her sister and family. On a Shox hoop note, she could have helped a bit. We have the returners and that is it. No injuries, little fouls and we'll compete. The team is now doing some kind of Green Beret Boot Camp; why, I don't know. I always think they should work on free throws, jump shots, ball handling, etc. With maybe ten players, they don't need to get worn out before the season starts.

The men are known for working extremely hard and being demanding. Is it ok for the men but the women just can't handle it? Just asking.

I have no problem with the women working as hard if not harder than the men. I just wonder sometimes how putting on boxing gloves and punching heavy bags, doing bear crawls through the grass, etc. helps your game. Sometimes I think it is just for show. I do know the team gets in shape, however.
