Ashley Bright pitched a strong game. She gave up 4 hits, struck out 11 and walked 2. Both runs were unearned, scoring with two outs on Shocker errors.
The Shockers also only managed 4 hits but struck out only 4 times. Two of the hits, singles by Britnee Barnett and Cynthia Verhulst, game leading off the bottom the 7th. After being sacrificed to 2nd and 3rd the Shocks had two chances at tieing the game but could no come up with the key hit.
That was a pretty tough loss for the Shocks. Hopefully, they will have better luck the rest of the weekend.
Shock put up 3 in the 1st and add another in the 2nd vs New Mexico.
Unfortunately, Brianna Smet is struggling on the mound for the Shocks and gave back 2 to the Lobos in the 1st and has given up a Grand Slam in the second (one way to get out of a bases loaded jam).
Kierston Dixon lead off the 4th with a solo homer out of the 9-hole. Cynthia Verhulst has added a 3-run blast with one out and the Shocks are back up 8-6.
They are 5-5 this year. In this Tournament they defeated Texas Tech 6-1 yesterday and were leading Missouri 2-0 last night when the game was stopped by rain.
Wished we would have allocated a few of those runs to the Missouri game.
You don't see that kind of score very often in softball, especially with a PAC-10 team.
Another nice pitching job by Ashly Bright. She has now pitched 16 innings in this tournament and has only allowed 2 unearned runs in the loss to Missouri.
Shocks do need to find a consistent second pitcher to help Ashly out.
Freshman Brianna Smet has shown glimpses of being capable, but she has been up and down so far this season.
