Seems like it. Not necessarily indicative of a move from to WSU but Nicole recently tweeted:

Good investigative work @1972Shocker:. I would say that the circumstantial evidence points to the Shockers having a new softball assistant coach.

I also see we added a volunteer assistant. Former Butler County and Arkansas SS Clarisa Navarro.

Welcome to Shocker Nation Coach Hudson and Coach Navarro.

Nicole is really down to earth. She did a great job at MSSU and I cannot say enough about her family. Got to know her dad through some Webb City/Joplin connections and Nicole is a terrific young lady.

Check out the softball team's camo jersey's at goShockers.com

WICHITA, Kan. ? The reigning Missouri Valley Conference champion Wichita State softball team begins their fall exhibition season on Saturday, Sept. 13 when they play Seminole State College and Johnson County CC at Wilkins Stadium in a doubleheader. At 2 p.m., the Shockers take on Seminole State College and at 4 p.m., the Shockers will take on Johnson County CC.

I generally don't care for camo uni's but I kind of like these because they actually have a hint of the Shocker school colors in them.

Definitely the best camo jerseys I have seen.

I had a chance to watch several innings of both of these games this past weekend. Random observations follow.

                      Hutchinson CC 1-2 Shockers

By the time I arrived, Paige Mason had already given the Shocks a 1-0 lead with a homer.

Kelsey Sterneker, the freshman from Maize South, pitched out of a bases loaded, no outs jam in the third (aided by a Hutch base-running blunder) before being replaced in the fifth with two on and no outs by Ashlynne Neil, the juco transfer from California. Neil's main pitch appears to be a hard drop. I think she can help, although the dads said she was pretty wild the previous weekend.

The Hutch pitcher seemed to be a good test, and we were popping up everything. The speedy Ashley Johnson scored the winning run in the sixth on a sac pop up to short left center field. Hutch had scored the tying run in the top half when we made a poor throw to the plate on the runner coming home on a first-and-third double steal.

                      Cowley County CC 2-11 Shockers

Katie pitched this one. She gave up quite a few hits, several of the scratch variety.

We hit the ball much better this game. Paige Luellen had two homers and Liz Broyles had another. Mackenzie Wright, a freshman from Midwest City, played third in this one. She got a couple of hits and made several nice fielding plays. Kennedy Long from Derby was the other new face in this game, but she did not do anything to impress.

Bailey Holt, a catcher from Mulvane, and Hunter Hogan, an outfielder from Carroll, were area girls that I did not see play.

At least Jenni Brooks is out this fall, recovering from forearm surgery. Brittany Fortner was also not dressed, but I am not sure if this was for the day or all fall. Erin Carney's knee is slow rehabbing, and I am under the impression she will not play this fall.

Doesn't sound like we are making a lot of progress beefing up our pitching. Depending on the offense to carry you is a tough way to go. I had not heard about Jenni's surgery. Are there any details available on that? Is that something that my have impacted her during the season last Spring?

What did you think of Kelsey Sterneker from what you saw?

I feel bad for Hunter Stohlmeyer. She seemed like she very much wanted to be a Shocker. Unfortunately, she just didn't have the goods to make that happen.

I think Ashlynne, the juco pitcher, has a chance to be close to an even swap for Sloan. But that is a 2+ innings appraisal, too. With assumed improvement from Katie (and Jenni) given a year's experience, I think the pitching has a chance to be better. A dad whose teenage daughter is working with Samantha certainly had good things to say about her teaching of pitching. With the beefed up schedule, the pitching had better be better.

Something to do with tendons in her forearm. She did wear a sleeve last spring, so I assume it was an issue at some level then. I did not ask specifically about the prognosis, but nothing was said to indicate she would be unable to pitch next spring.

Kelsey is a "spots and spin" pitcher. Does she have enough spin, enough ball movement? Will she hit her spots well enough to overcome her lack of speed? (I would guess she maxes out at 57mph, maybe a little less for a lot of her pitches.) I'm not optimistic, but I heard some positive comments from others. In the 5A State Championship game last year, she did get lit up by Carroll (who lit up a lot of people). Like all freshman pitchers, she has to learn to get people out at a whole new level with the tools she has, to refine those tools, and to develop new ones. I think her road will be tougher than the one Katie and Jenni traveled last year. And I suppose if Jenni is back in the spring, they could redshirt Kelsey, let her get stronger and work on her stuff. That would depend in part on what is in the recruiting pipeline. Oh, and this is another of those 2-inning evaluations.

Shocker Softball Signs Six Players to LOI's.

WICHITA, Kan. ? On Nov. 12, Wichita State head softball coach Kristi Bredbenner and the entire softball coaching staff announced the signings of six student-athletes who will join the Shockers for the 2015-16 season.

No pitchers among this group as far as I could tell. Had to listen to HCKB comments to even get an idea of what position they might play and even that was somewhat sketchy.

I would like to see a little more roster specifics like positions, side they throw/bat from and perhaps their heights.

Beyond pitcher and possibly catcher, the positions tend to be almost irrelevant. If you can hit, the coaches will find a place for you to play. But, yes, I sure hope we have a pitcher lined up out of the high school '15-'16 class.
