That is a good start for the young Lady Shocks team. They were seeded #22 out of the 24 teams in the regional.
Live Stats
Meghan Schuetz really struggled in round 1 shooting a 14-over 86. However, her teammates picked her up nicely including an even par 72 effort by Freshman Maria Alejandra Villalobos. Alejandra Arellano, Sam Stewart and Bryce Schroeder chipped in scores of 76, 76 and 79 respectively.
I look for Meghan to rebound today.
From the Wichita Eagle:
“It’s a really challenging golf course,” McCurdy said. “You have to put your ball in play off the tee, and especially have to hit it into the right areas on your second shot. That really plays right into our wheelhouse. All of our girls are great ball-strikers, very good iron play. If we keep the ball below the hole, especially when there’s a lot of slope near the pin, I think we’ve got a really good shot of advancing. It’s great to have that depth and balance.”

The Shocks were one of the last teams to tee off in Round 1. In Round 2 they are among the first teams to tee off with Meghan Schuetz leading off at 8:25am this morning.
Good luck Ladies.
BTW, Kent State had a player, Wad Phaewchimplee, shoot a 7-under 65 in Round 1 to lead the individual scoring. She had 5 birdies, an eagle and 12 pars.

Shocks got of to a decent start but are starting to struggle in the middle holes of the front nine. Villalobos went bogey, double, triple and bogey on 3-4-5-6 to pretty much blow up her round.
The Shocks need to steady the ship here and avoid the big numbers.
Doesn't look like it's happening today for the Lady Shocks. Shocks go +17 on the front 9 vs a +5 in Round 1. (Round 1 score on the front 9 show in parentheses).
Megan Schuetz +4 (+9)
Bryce Schroeder +4 (+5)
Alejandra Arrellano +5 (+3)
Samantha Stewart +4 (E)
-----------------------------------
Alejandra Villalobos +7 (-3)
Arrellano finished off the front 9 with a triple-bogey.
They aren't out of it yet, but they need a solid back nine (a boatload of pars) and help from some of the other teams to stay in it. Unfortunately, Shocks trending in the wrong direction.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 9, 2014, 12:51 PM.

Unfortunately, the golf course apparently got the better of the Lady Shocks today and they played like the #22 seed in the regional ballooning to a 34-over 322 in Round 2 after putting up a competitive 15-over 303 in Round 1.
At this point the pressure is off as they are out of contention for a Top 8 finish to move on to the NCAA Championships.
Now it's just a matter of soaking up the experience and seeing if they can bounce back and play a better final round.

A reasonable goal for the Shocker ladies today would be to finish ahead of Lamar and/or LSU and finish better than their seeding.
Edit: Didn't happen. Shocks finish in 22nd 1-stroke back of Lamar and 9-Strokes behind 15th ranked LSU.
This course kind of chewed the Lady Shocks up and spit 'em out but they weren't the only ones. Hopefully, it will prove to be a valuable learning experience for this young Shocker team.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 10, 2014, 08:32 PM.

The Trusted Choice® Big "I" National Championship is the 3rd oldest junior golf event in the United States. Today's best players at the LPGA and PGA TOUR level have all made their way through the Big "I". The 47th Trusted Choice® Big “I” National Championship will be played at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas August 3-6, 2015.
Unfortunately, Taryn did not play well shooting 89-83 = 172 (+28) and did not come close to making the cut at (+14)
