  • 2013-14 Lady Shockers Tennis - The Final Stretch

Ok, guys and gals, perhaps it's time to throw a little love in the direction of the Shocker women's tennis team.

The Lady Shocks clinched a tie for another regular season Valley tennis championship with a 7-0 whitewashing of Northern Iowa.

The Lady Shocks who are now 5-0 in Valley play take on the 4-1 Drake Bulldogettes tomorrow morning at 10:00 am at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. A win obviously will give them an outright championship which I'm sure is important to the Ladies.

Last yea the Shocks beat Drake 4-3 so this promises to be one of the Shocks tougher, if not the toughest, Valley match the year.

I have never been to a Shocker tennis match but that may have to change tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow is Senior Day for Montse Blasco Fernandez, Veronika Blaskova and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul.

Good Luck to the Shocker seniors and their teammates.

Congratulations to Coach Foster and his Lady Shocks for winning another Missouri Valley Conference championship with a 4-3 win over Drake. Coach Foster, who was Eric Sexton's first coaching hire, has done a good job keeping the Lady Shocks at the top of the Valley. He has won 5 consecutive Valley Championships and his teams still have not lost a Valley match in his 5 years.

The match was not quite as close as the final score would indicate. The Shocks were up 4-0 to clinch the win before Drake toughed out wins in the final 3 matches which all went 3 sets. In addition, they won those three 3rd sets by scores of 14-12, 10-8 and 11-9.

The Shocks also earned the No. 1 seed in the MVC Team Championships to be held in Normal, IL next weekend to determine the Valley's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament.

Congratulations to the Lady Shocker tennis team on winning the MVC Post-Season Tennis Championship Tournament with a 4-0 win over Drake. The Shockers continue their streak of never having lost a Valley match in Coach Foster's 5 years and earn the Valley's Automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. ? Wichita State women's tennis senior Montse Blasco Fernandez was one of ten student-athletes to win the Missouri Valley Conference Leadership & Service Spring Award, the Valley announced on Wednesday.

The Shocks fall to the #18 ranked OU Sooners in the 1st round of NCAA play in Coral Gables, Florida.

It looks to me like the Lady Shocks gave OU about everything they could.

OU won the #1 doubles 8-1, but the Shocks bounced back to win the #2 doubles match 8-2. OU, however, prevailed in the #2 doubles match 8-5 to take the doubles point. This would be to be a very important point in the match.

OU won the #1 singles 6-4,6-4, the #2 singles 6-1, 6-2 and the #5 singles 6-4, 6-1 to put the match away.

          WSU won the #3 singles 6-5, 6-4 and the #6 singles 6-4, 6-2.

The #4 singles match was not completed and I am not sure what the score was in that match when the overall match was clinched by OU.

Nice effort Ladies and another very nice season for the Lady Shocks tennis team.
