The Shockers take on the Jayhawks in a single game at 6pm today, Wednesday.
KU were picked fourth among the seven Big 12 teams playing softball. Their current record is 24-10, and they have yet to start their conference play which begins this weekend. Among common and MVC opponents, they have wins over Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois and have split a pair of games with St. Louis. UCF, Nebraska and Northwestern are other programs of note they have played, all close losses, and Kentucky, with whom they split. They have not played any West Coast teams or other SEC teams beyond Kentucky and Ole Miss, another loss.
Kelsey Kessler and Alicia Pille have all of the Jayhawk starts in the circle. Kessler has an ERA of 1.57 and WHIP of 0.85. Pille, who was Pitcher of the Week recently, has numbers of 1.94 and 0.98. Their bats are led by Chaley Brickey (BA of .400, OPS of 1.247 and seven homers) and Harli Ridling (.343, 1.102 and eight homers), both of whom have earned Player of the Week honors. Two others have an OPS above .900.
For the Shocks, PaigeL (.411, 1.187 and six homers) and Cacy (.393, 1.228 and six homers) continue to lead the offense. Liz and Melanie also have OPS north of .900. Sloan, Katie and Jenni all have ERAs of near 4.00 or worse with only Sloan's WHIP of 1.40 being any distance away from a WHIP of 2.00.
