We're probably going to get blown out here but I like this team. They're going to be a handful in the Valley. Alex with an and 1 going in the under 16 timeout. 10-6 OU.

Sockers got smoked in the 1st half, but playing OU pretty even in the 2nd.
Down 74-60 with just under 4 to go.

        Final: 89-70
Too much balance from OU...they won the rebounding battle 53-30...ouch.

19 points to the number 11 team in the nation, on their home floor, in what could be considered a rebuilding year having so many new faces...
I'm not disappointed with that at all. And I'd rather lose a game like this, than blow out a non conference nobody by 30.

Wouldn't mine seeing coach Coale come to town for a game!

I made the trip. Was very happy to see Kelsey play very well in the 2nd half with 15 2nd half points. We have what it takes to win the Valley. We can go 8 deep, 9 is a stretch. Dap was off, Alex is very good. Kelsey can score doubles every game if she remains aggressive. Michelle struggled. Bonner showed her out of control side.

At the end of the day, we created more scoring opportunities than OU (had more FG attempts and the same FT attempts), but failed to convert at a high enough rate to keep up. Part of that was OU being very efficient in their shooting (which goes along with being the #11 team in the nation) and part of it was the bad shooting game by Michaela from the field and Michelle from the line. If Michaela has a normal shooting performance (say 5-10 with a couple of 3s instead of 1-10 with 0 3s) this is a single digit game.

The fact that we were +10 in the turnover margin and committed fewer fouls than OU along with getting more scoring chances is a very good sign because we will shoot better than we did today most games and won't face teams with nearly the offensive firepower of OU most nights. If we can get that kind of turnover margin against a top 25 team while still committing fewer fouls than our opponents, it bodes well for the rest of the year in spite of the final score.

She did ... about ten years ago. We were undergoing renovations to make Koch Arena, and the game was played at Newman.

The usual solid analysis. I didn't watch the entire game, but I saw enough to realize our girls can compete. OU had a significant size advantage which was a large factor in the rebounding disparity, but knowing that, our team used their superior speed to create advantages of their own.

That being said, part of the reason for the difference in shooting was quality of shot selection. OU took a lot of bunnies in the half court. There's a reason they're ranked so high. They got the ball inside and they made it count. Too often we took long, guarded jumpers.

I realize it's a very small sample size, but I like what I saw. Past history, even the last couple of seasons, prepared me for a 30-40 loss. Far from it. Our girls were a lot closer to making a game of it than they were to getting shelled.

One of the things I have keyed on in measuring how much progress we were making as a program is how we fare on the road. Under the previous JA regime we struggled mightily on the road and that is putting it mildly. Not only did we rarely win on the road we very regularly were blown out on the road and not just by highly ranked teams but by many of our MVC sisters.

There is no doubt that we improved our road performance very significantly under the current JA regime. We simply do not have the size to hang with teams like OU unless we are shooting it lights out from the perimeter and making a high percentage of our freebies which unfortunately we did not do vs OU. However, I was pleased to see the game Kelsey was able to register against this kind of competition. A solid season from Kelsey would be very beneficial for this year's Shocker team. Hopefully, this game will give Kelsey a big boost of confidence.

Would love to see Jody find a few more Alex Harden's in the haystacks as well. I just love that young ladies all-around game.

Alex would play for OU. A lot. She's big time.

St. Joseph's Friday night will give us a nice test. More like a Valley school, not another Oklahoma. We seem to go seven or eight deep; I was hoping for nine. We need our top seven having good games and shooting a decent percentage.

Agreed. Looks like an interesting matchup. The team to picked to finish 2nd in the MVC vs the team picked to finish 2nd in the A-10. Both with easy opening round wins in the WNIT and both with similar losses to Top 15 opponents in the 2nd round.

The Wichita State University women's basketball team will finish its run in the Preseason WNIT with a 7:05 p.m. tip-off Friday night vs. St. Joseph's at Charles Koch Arena.

The teams look to be similar in size with St. Joe having maybe slightly more experience with 3 seniors.

Jody mentioned on her radio show last night St. Joe's looks like a Creighton team. Very tough, disciplined. It will be a good test. I just hope we can go a little deeper into the bench. Jody mentioned she would like 10 deep and maybe can bring three off of the bench now.
