Lady Shocks Golf - MSU/Payne Steward Invitational

Shocks sit in 2nd place with a 297 after the 1st round, 1 stroke behind leader Oral Roberts. The 2nd round was called due to darkness and will be finished tomorrow morning followed by the 3rd and final round.

The interesting thing about this tournament is that the 17-team field includes 6 Valley teams including host MSU, UNI, SIU, Drake, Bradley and the Shocks. So this will be a good measuring stick for seeing how this young Shocker team stacks up to their Valley competition.

Fr. Maria Allejandra Villalobos lead the Shocks with a 1-under par 71, followed by So. Meghan Schuetz with a 72. Fr. Bryce Schroeder and RSo. Daniela Rugeles both shot 77.

The Lady Shocks hold on to finish in 2nd behind Oral Roberts. Shocker So. Meghan Schuetz set a new Wichita State 54-hole scoring record with a 72-73-71 = 216.

The Lady Shocks had a team score of 905. Scores of the other Valley teams in the tournament were SIU (910), host MSU (914), Drake (943), UNI (943) and Bradley (952). Former Valley member finished last in the 17 team field just missing a 4-digit score at 997.

I wasn't aware of this but in a recent interview prior to the MSU Tournament Coach McCurdy said that Meghan walked onto the Shocker program last year.
