Here is an interesting article in the Hutch News about a local high school golfer who, in spite of being fairly dominant the past few years, can't get so much as a sniff from the Kansas D1 schools.

Recruiting for women's golf

I believe women's golf is an equivalency sport that has 6.0 schollies to divvy up at the D-1 level. The Shockers currently have 7 players on the roster none of whom are seniors.
I have no idea what the scholarship situation is for Coach McCurdy but maybe he just doesn't have much left scholarship-wise to offer.
Still I sent him a copy of the article for whatever that might be worth.

I know tennis has kind of gone the same route as golf in that they go outside the US because of the tough competition for US athletes. Track and field has a host of top athletes from outside the US. I don't know if you can be competitive on a national level and not recruit outside the US. The article shows how it kind of sucks to be really good at what you do but can't attract attention to warrant a look at a scholarship. Hope she winds up with a scholarship somewhere. That was pretty cool to send a copy of the article to Coach McCurdy "72".

I think tennis (both the men and women) is the sport most predominately dominated by foreign players.
Golf, at least at WSU, seems to be going a little more international although still plenty of American players in the mix in that sport.
Track and field also has its share of foreign athletes but at WSU the teams generally are dominated by kids from Kansas and the Midwest. Scholarship limits may have a lot to do with that. The Shocks have had some very fine foreign athletes but they have also had many very fine local track athletes as well.
It is not uncommon to see foreign players in Volleyball and Basketball either. OTOH foreign athletes are pretty rare in football, baseball and softball.

I think I sent the coach an email about her last year. But if we have no seniors then that pretty much ties the coach's hands. Although he could promise her a spot after a year of juco.
I went and looked at a few of our current player's "before WSU" achievements and she matches up pretty well. But it's also possible that the coach took a look and wasn't sold.

I didn't even think of that connection. Thanks to a wedding announcement that was still online I confirmed that Korey and Brennan (Taryn's dad, who is the head girl's golf and basketball coach) are brothers.
And just because I find it humorous, here's a pic of the Buhler girl's golf team after winning the league meet the other day:

His Shockers are young - so young that McCurdy wasn't sure if he would have a scholarship. When it became apparent that he would, he called Torgerson a week before the state meet and told her he had been checking out her scores all fall.
