Shockers 10-3 Crowder
I saw none of this game, but I was told this was the score.
Shockers 2-0 Pitt State
Sloan pitched this game. Pitt State loaded the bases with one out (two singles and a walk? I forget), but when Sloan struck out the second out, Melanie trapped the runner off first. The throw back home by Erin got the third out of the inning. The Gorillas had another single in the second, and maybe one other hit, maybe no others.
The Shocks were not particularly impressive with the bats, hitting a lot of pop flies into the north wind. They scored two in the bottom of the seventh - apparently the arrangement was to play forty-two outs - for the win. But they needed some help from the Pitt State defense. The catcher threw a dribbler down the first base line past the first baseman, and the ensuing sac bunt was played too slowly by the pitcher and was beat out for a single. A sac bunt, walk, sac fly (on a close play that should have been called obstruction) and single by Erin scored the two runs.
The new kids did not play much, but none of the few that did just wowed me.
Games with Allen County and Cowley County are scheduled for next Saturday.
