  • Lady Shocks Golf - Chip-N Club Invitational

The Lady Shocks are playing in the Chip-N Club Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska today and tomorrow:

This is a very young Shocker squad with the top 5 for this tournament being as follows:

Jr. - Alejandra Arellano - Orozaba, Mexico (Seminole State College, OK)
So. - Meghan Schuetz - Bloomington, IL
So. - Bryce Schroeder - Pueblo, CO
Fr. - Samantha Stewart, Oklahoma City, OK
Fr. - Maria Alejandra Villalobos - Bogota, Columbia

The young Shockers put up a team score of +19 in the morning round today lead by Soph's Schuetz & Schroeder who both shot 3-over par 75's. Fr. Villalobos contributed a 78 and Jr. Arellano a 79.

The hot afternoon weather apparently agreed with the Lady Shocks (and perhaps having seen the course layout) as they shot a very solid +4 team total to move into 3rd place behind host Nebraska and Central Arkansas. Nebraska is running away with things as they are at +4 after two rounds, 15 strokes ahead of 2nd place Central Arkansas and 19 ahead of the Shocks.

The only other Valley school in the filed is MSU who at +38 trail the Shocks by 15 strokes heading into tomorrow's final round. Former Valley member Creighton is bring up the rear at +84.

In Round 2, Shocker Soph Meghan Schuetz, finishing on the front nine went birdie, birdie, birdie, eagle over her last 4 holes to shoot a 3-under 69. IIRC, there are not a whole lot of Sub-70 rounds in Shocker women's golf history. Soph Bryce Schroeder followed with a solid 1-over 73 with Freshmen Villalobos and Stewart carding 74 and 76, respectively.

Meghan, at even par on the day, sits in a 2-way tie for 3rd in the individual standings.

Here is the link to the tournament scoreboard. Not sure why they are not closing the scores out for the final group which includes a Central Arkansas player. It has been quite awhile since all the other scores went final.

Shocks may have something pretty good going with this Women's golf team over the next few years. But for now let's see how this young group can close out the tournament tomorrow.

The Lady Shocks were clicking along pretty well today as they were at even par 2/3rd's into their final round and then the Par 5, 14th jumped up a knocked them silly. Freshman Sami Stewart made a par but the other 4 ladies went double bogey, double bogey, double bogey, triple bogey and all of a sudden the Ladies have ballooned to plus 10 on the day. Still sitting in 3rd place though.

The Shocks finished the final found at +14 but still finished in 3rd place 9 strokes ahead of Iowa and 9 strokes behind 2nd place Central Iowa. Nebraska was the winner by 18 strokes.

Our two sophs, Meghan and Bryce had their poorest rounds of the tournament at 76 and 78, respectively, but our two freshmen Sami (73) and Maria Alejandra (75) played solidly today.

Again the future looks good with 2 Sophs and 2 Frosh making up the Shock's top four. Hopefully, they will continue to grow and improve their games.

Interesting. The 901 score posted in this tournament is a new school record, breaking the old record of 907 set by the 1995-96 team.

LINCOLN, Neb.- Four Shockers landed in the top-20 as the Wichita State women's golf team carded the best tournament in program history with a 901 (307-292-302) and finished in third place in the Chip-N-Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course.
