  • Lady Shockers-2013-14 Edition: What will we look like and where will we be picked?

There....I started the thread. Now you smart folks can finish.

Seems like we have a couple of good pieces to build around in Harden and Dapprich. Price and Jacobs should be solid.

    Who will be our PG?

    A refresher of our recruits:

The Wichita State University women's basketball program signed seven student-athletes for the fall signing period, head coach Jody Adams announced today.

I don't know who, but I heard Jody is recruiting scorers, not shooters, but scorers. Time will tell.

Looks like SIU made a decent hire for their new Women's basketball coach.

Just about anything would be better than the previous coaching regime. I will say that I think there is some very good raw material at SIU and I think they will be much improved next year under Coach Stein.

Missouri State hires Kellie Harper, another former Tennessee player under Pat Summitt, to replace Nyla Milleson. Looks like a good hire for the Lady Bears.

Committed: Former Brookfield Central basketball standout Valerierose Agnello will play at Wichita State. The 5-foot-10 guard has played the past two seasons at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill., where she was a Women's Basketball Coaches Association/State Farm All-American this past season. She averaged 14 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for the Kougars, who finished fourth in the national junior college Division II tournament.

I don't see anything to get too excited about here. The quality of players in Women's Juco BB is not at a comparable level to the player's available in the men's game. We will have to see how Valerierose works out, but I would not expect that this is a program changing get. Based on the Shocks history with Juco signings I don't really consider this anything to get too hyped up about. But we will see. You never know for sure.

The team is working out hard now in the weight room, running and individuals with coaches. I expect some nice improvement and confidence from our returners. This program works these girls hard year round. Having a championship under their belts is also a nice motivator. I don't see any game changers coming in. I think the kid from Butler may help, if she can play within Jody's disciplined program.

The young lady from Butler/Wichita Southeast, Jamillah Bonner, sounds like she plays very hard which Jody will like. She had a pretty good scoring average at Butler but takes a lot of shots to get her points. Her shooting % aren't real impressive.

We did not bring in much size. We did sign the 6'2" Landers girl out of Texas but she may be a bit of a project. Her high school stats are not real impressive.

I like what I have read and seen about several of the freshman, but they are freshman (6 of them coming in plus I assume Alie will get a medical reshshirt giving us a 7 member frershman class). We will have 1 Senior, 4 Juniors (including 2 Juco transfers) and 1 Sophomore.

My personal preference would be to have the classes more or less evenly represented on the roster, but it is what it is.

Maybe Jody will redhsirt a couple of the income Freshman and begin to work towards a more balanced distribution of players among classes. Or maybe not. Perhaps it doesn't really make a difference.

I think Kelsey Jacobs is really going to have to step up her game as a Junior next year. We know Alex and Michaela are going to be heavily relied upoin. Michelle will no doubt bring her usual intensity. Not sure we saw enough of Alie last year to really know what kind of an impact she will have. She was up and down in the 5 games she played in.

Looking forward to seeing what the incoming players can bring to the table. No doubt there is a lot of playing time available.

Creighton would have been the odds on favorite to win the Valley next year if they had not joined the C-7. Without Creighton its much more of an open question who the favorite should be. I have to give that some study and thought. With the big turnover of personnel and the inexperience of the Shocks I have to think they will be picked somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Illinois State probably has the dominat front court in the league but they are going through a coaching change as are Missouri State and Southern Illinois. MSU and SIU look like they have made prettty solid coaching hires and I would look for improvement from both of those teams. It may not be a great year in the Valley for WBB next year. OTOH the league may be pretty wide open and available to whichever team can come together by the time league play starts.

Looks like the Valley could be competitive. Hard to say what the Shox will look like.

At the WSU-Nebraske VB match on the 20th Jazimen Gordon (I'm pretty sure it was Jaz) came onto the floor on crutches. Couldn't tell for sure but looked like she may have had a knee issue.

Has anybody heard anything about that? I was wondering if maybe Jaz had an arthroscopic procedure or something and that perhaps that was bothering her at the end of the season and partially accounted for her reduced playing time.
