Despite some successful events and a main tenant that draws well, Missouri State University is struggling to avoid losses at JQH Arena. One solution: beer sales. The problem for MSU officials: the arena breaks even operationally, but there’s not enough revenue for debt service.

So University officials are looking for ways to increase revenues at the arena. One idea: more high-profile concerts that are better marketed. A start, but it’s hard for a school with a midsized arena to break into the concert field without the aid of outside pros. The second idea: sell beer at MSU games. Despite popular perception, there are not NCAA regulations prohibiting the sale of alcohol at NCAA events; that’s just the tradition and practice. Selling beer would go a long ways toward reducing the debt load — but there are many in the community who think that’s too high a price to pay.

like 1972ShockerThanks for all of the politeness displayed on this Board. you guys should feel real proud of yourselves! Looks to me Like 1972 Shocker has some really good posts on this thread and that there are a few other good posters. But some of you are angry at the world! Please consider doing a 12 step program to get rid of some of your resentments. it will help!

So you come on a WSU board to explain the motives of MSU fans even though you are an ISU-R fan?

I guess that your accusations of bitterness are just part of a much larger trend of asserting knowledge of the motives of third parties. Good luck with that.

A couple of more articles. Looks like Mr. Hammons pitched in an additional $5 million to help with the $7 million in cost overruns:

It would appear that the seat assessments to cover the debt service on the bonds issued to build the arena are what caused the price of tickets to Lady Bears games to increase significantly and perhaps they prices some of their fans out of the market. In any case, MSU needs butts in the seats for both its men's and women's basketball teams and that means putting a very successful product on the floor.

When I look at all of the opinions about coaches and thoughts on Jody, I will say the best move Jody has made is bringing in Kirk Crawford. He has brought a great ability to teach and a sense of calm. If we go back in time, there were many comments about what looked like a dysfunctional women's team family. Coaches leaving, players leaving, etc. Watch Kirk on the bench and he spends time, teaching and keeping the team confident. Good leaders know how to surround themselves with people who fill the gaps. Kirk has done this. Go Shox.

I'm thinking you still haven't figured out this posting on other teams message boards thing. Not sure if there is a 12 step program for that or not.

Can we take this discussion to a MBB thread where it will, I presume, be more welcome? (I can only presume, since I have never read any of the MBB threads.)
