  • Nebraska at Shocker SB

The Huskers are scheduled to be here this weekend for a double header on Saturday beginning at 2pm and a single game on Sunday at 1pm. The forecast for Friday night and Saturday is for showers and thunderstorms, but perhaps they can still manage to get in three games in some fashion or at least two. Being a weekend series, it will be basically impossible to reschedule this as was done with the Oklahoma DH.

Nebraska have a record of 14-5 and are ranked RV(26)/22. All five losses are against ranked teams. They are 1-2 versus Oklahoma this year and 2-0 versus Oklahoma State. They have a team OPS of .850 (the Shockers, .740) with four players with an OPS above .900 (the Shockers, only Melanie). Their team ERA is 1.92 versus a team ERA of 2.51 for the us. All of this against much better competition than we have faced. To say this will be stout test for the Shocks is an understatement.

But it will be a good learning experience, good preparation for the conference schedule which begins the following weekend. And who knows, maybe we can sneak a win sometime during the weekend.

This may be a reason to catch my first ever softball game...

Weather not looking good. The Ladies don't have the luxury of an artificial surface like the Baseball team does. Can't play through much ran with a dirt infield and grass outfield.

Current forecast is scattered thunderstorms and showers over by 5pm tomorrow. Though the Shockers have a dirt infield, they do have a tarp just like baseball. In fact, if a conference game is cancelled for unplayable conditions and the field was not tarped, by conference rule the game counts as a loss.

Start time moved to 5pm. Still a DH at this point.

LiveStats via Nebraska. There is a Dorothy Lynch ad at the bottom of the page. :)

Katie in the circle. Laura in left, Megan at first, Erin at third and Kaitlyn in right.

Katie yields a homer in the first. 1-0 after one.

Still 1-0 after two. Katie has three strike outs but has given up two walks in addition to two hits. Our baserunners are a walk and a hit batter.

Now after three. Katie continues to do a nice job.

Still 1-0, Nebraska, after four. Eight Shocks have gone down on strikes.

In the fifth, Laura singled, but Megan lined into a double play. Still 1-0 after five.

In the Shocker sixth, Melanie singled with two outs, and Ali doubled her home. Tied, 1-1, after six. Katie continues to pitch quite well, having given up four hits.

In the top of the seventh with two outs, the Nebraska leadoff hits an inside-the-park home run. Danika replaces Layne with Kaitlyn moving to center. An injury? A collision and injury? Then a single, stolen base and throwing error, and single add another run. Nebraska take a 3-1 lead.

Three up and thrre down close out the Husker win.

                          Game 1

                          Nebraska 3-1 Shockers

Katie pitched well enough to win as she has done most of the season. She gave up seven hits and had three strike outs. Only a fluke home run kept the game from ITB? Was someone there?

The Shockers had three hits after a slow start in the first four innings.

EDIT: Stokes, the leadoff, hit a gapper to left center that was a triple with her speed. But Layne hurt her ankle in pursuit of the ball and beat the relay home from Laura. This info is from the Nebraska site.

Layne either twisted her ankle or knee going for a ball hit between center and left. Laura stopped when she saw Layne and the ball layed in the water till Laura finally threw it in.
Layne was carried off the field.

                              Game 2

Sloan has the start. With Layne's injury, the outfield is Laura in right, Kaitlyn in center and Danika in left. Paige is at third and Erin is at first.
