Obviously, offense is a problem. Last weekend, if memory serves (I am sure it will be corrected if not, lol), only a few players were consistent hitters. Hayley and Kaitlyn with 4 each, Ali and Layne with 3; in five games. This weekend, as in last, the team was held to a few hits each game, except for the Detroit game. Eight strike outs and 15 in two different games, (Megan and Laura leading the strike outs) not that the other girls have had their share. The leading hitter has not played in the last two game, interesting. <br> With inconsistenc y, coach has tried different lineups, and how difficult that must be. It is obvious that against better pitchers, that girls are struggling. Love the Shocks, and wish them luck tomorrow.

Shocks rally for 3 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th for a 4-1 win over Samford. Sloan goes the distance for the win giving up 5 hits.
Samford picked up their lone run in the 1st on a couple of doubles, the 2nd coming with 2 outs. Sloan only allowed 3 singles over the final 6 innings.
The Shocker McCracken struck again with a 3-run bomb in the top of the 6th for the game winning hit. Great weekend for Megan. Let's hope she keeps it up and pulls some of her teammates along with her.
The Shocks added a final run in the 7th when Erin Carney led off with a single, advanced to 3rd with 2-outs and was delivered home on a single by Freshman Brittany Fortner.
Good job this weekend Shocks. :applouse:

Had a chance to visit with McCracken's dad over the weekend while watching her younger sister catch future Shocker pitcher Jenny Brooks and Brooks threw well in that game. Really enjoyed the opportunity. The top five high school pitchers in Kansas were at the Academy this weekend and it was enjoyable. Shockers finish the weekend at 500 and had a shot at going 3-1. I'd say improvement is being made. One more weekend and then reality. Meaning a five game homestand with OU and the Huskers. I may actually go watch the Husker games. Son wants to take his kids to see Nebraska and we have a couple Kansas ladies tearing it up wearing the red. Not a bad weekend for the Shocks though.

Melanie Jaegers was named to the All-Tournament First Team, and Megan McCracken to the All-Tournament Second Team.
Final Standings of all teams are also at the link.
One nice touch that Memphis did for this tournament is to provide game-day pictures that accompanied the goshockers.com daily writeups.
