  • Shocker Softball Picked to Finish 8th

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

After a closely bunched top tier of four teams and a scattered middle tier of three teams, the Shocks are the top of the bottom tier of three teams. The usual culprits, Illinois State, Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa and Creighton, are picked to lead the Valley with all of the first place votes scattered among them.

So has anyone else picked up on the fact that Stuever has transferred to Butler Co.? I guess the theory that she quit WSU due to injury is out the window.

I had not picked up on that.

As far as what the rest of the story is, I have no clue.

The most obvious speculation, I think, is that she has decided to transfer elsewhere, to a higher-profile program. It may be that she does not have a particular school in mind and thus has to go the juco route. Or perhaps Wichita State was unwilling to grant her a release to compete at, for example, another Valley school.

Hovpen may know the story, and I know someone who may know the story. See if I can find out anything.

And Schultz always knew what was going on.

Andale product Syd Stuever joins Butler after spending one season at Wichita State. The sophomore outfielder is coming off two shoulder surgeries and thought she’d given up softball at one point after last season, leaving the Shockers and moving to Tulsa to take a full-time job.

“(Chance) called me and I realized I needed to go back and get my education,” Stuever said. “There’s not a lot of pain in my shoulder, which was something I was concerned about and one of the big reasons I didn’t want to play, because I don’t want a third surgery.

“I’m taking it slow right now and haven’t felt like I’m forced to do anything. There are a lot of really good athletes on the team and I’m excited to see where we go with things.”
