They're not enjoying much anywhere this season.

The Shocks were more competitive in the 2nd but never really made a serious run and the outcome was never in doubt as Creighton cruised to a 91-63 win. Not sure how hard Creighton played in the 2nd half. No reason to really extend themselves with another game tomorrow.

The Shocks actually shot the ball decently for them hitting 24/51 (47.1%) but only made 2-12 on three pointers. The Shocks were good at the free throw line hitting 13-15 (86.7%) which has been an issue this year. But Creighton was 32/62 (51.6%) from the field including 8-26 (30.8%) from three and made 19- (86.4%) from the line. Creighton outrebounded the Shocks 34-25. The Shocks turned it over 20 times to only 11 for Creighton.

Jayla Murray 16 points on 7-10/0-1/2-2, Salese Blow 14 points on 6-12/1-2/1-1 plus 4 assists, and Jasmine Peaks with 10 points on 4-5/0-0/2-2 and also had 4 assists all had pretty solid games.

The Shocks will play Missouri, a 59-82 loser to Syracuse, tomorrow at 5:00 pm. The Shocks should have a chance in that one I think.

None of the games today in this event were close. Clemson beat UAB 90-52 and Alabama beat Alabama State 83-33 in the other 4 team pod.

Maybe we should have a chance, but we aren't going to. On pace to give up a hunskie after one quarter, 26-15. We can't play defense or rebound. We have exactly 0 defensive rebounds.

            ZERO.

Missouri 85 - Wichita State 57 matching the 28-point margin of loss against Creighton.

I had the Shocks finishing 4-8 in their 12 D-1 non-con games and they look to be right on track. Although, I thought (or at least hoped) they would be a bit more competitive. Probably have a couple of built-in wins with Prairie View, next on the docket, and Cal State - Bakersfield in 3 weeks. Whether or not they can find a 4th non-con win would seem to be somewhat questionable at this point.

This inaugural Women's Emerald Coast Classic hasn't exactly been very classic. The average winning margin in the first 7 games has been 38 points. The closest game has been the Syracuse 23-point win over Missouri. The Syracuse-Creighton game has the potential to be more much more competitive.

Update: I continue to prove I know very little. Creighton beat Syracuse 86-59, a 27 point beatdown.

Makes you wonder whether this particular event, at least for women, may be one-and-done.

WBB Preview: vs. Prairie View A&M (Dec. 2)

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M (0-3) vs. WICHITA STATE (1-5) - Records reflect D-1 games only
                Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 | 6:00 p.m. CT
Wichita, Kan. | Charles Koch Arena
TV: ESPN+ with Shane Dennis and Tracy Anderson
                Radio: GoShockers.com/Listen with Pat Strathman

                SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Prairie View A&M is coming off three-straight losses to Incarnate Word (49-68), Washington (50-65) and Georgia (62-79).

Prairie View A&M was picked sixth of 12 teams in the SWAC Preseason Poll. Their NET ranking is 280 with an RPI ranking of 302.

The Panthers rank seventh in the NCAA in bench points per game (37.8), leading the SWAC, and also rank No. 1 in the SWAC in field goal percentage (43.5) and three point percentage (36.1).

Two Panters are averaging double figures through the first five games with freshman CJ Wilson averaging 11.8 and Crystal Schultz scoring 10.2 per game. Amauri Williams is the team's leading rebounder with 5.0 per game, and she is also averaging 9.8 points per game.

The Shockers initial NET ranking for the 2024-25 season is 274 and their RPI is 243.

This is game that the Shockers normally would be pretty confident of winning. However the View hung in reasonably well against Washington and Georgia so I think the Shocks will have to do more than just show up. The View may be looking at this game and their game in two weeks vs Western Michigan as their best shots of picking up a D-1 win in the non-con portion of their schedule.

WarrenNolan.com predicts a Shocker win although I would not use this site as a source for placing any bets.

With about 2 minutes left in the first quarter an and-1 by Bre-yon White put the Shocks up 10-8 and they never trailed again as they cruised to a 74-45 win over the Women of the View.

The Shocks shot 42% from the field vs 27% for the View. Neither team was very good on 3-pointers with the Shocks hitting 3-14 and and PV hitting 4-14. Both teams shot 75% from the free throw line but the Shocks had 20 attempts to only 12 for PV. The Shocks had there best rebounding game of the season with a 49-34 advantage.

The Shocks outscored PV 23-9 on fast break points and 38-18 on points in the paint.

Jayla Murray with 17 points on 8-14 shooting plus 6 rebounds and Princess Anderson with 17 points on 7-13 shooting plus 5 rebounds, and Salese Blow with 13 points including 7-9 from the free throw line plus 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

This team's psyche not doubt needed that win. What does it mean moving forward? Not sure, but up next is KU in Lawrence so will find out then.
