Go Shockers - Masters, Palen Selected to Compete at U.S. Olympic Trials

Two Shockers are headed to the United States Olympic Team Trials to compete in the high jump from June 22-30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Destiny Masters and Brady Palen, both coming off All-American performances at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, have been accepted into the U.S. Olympic Trials in the high jump.

Masters' clearance of 1.86m/6'1.25" from her American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships victory was one centimeter shy of the auto qualifying mark but was enough to make her one of 22 accepted entries.

The women's high jump qualifying round will take place on Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. CT/ 5 p.m. PT, and the final will be on Monday, June 24 at 7:15 p.m. CT/5:15 p.m. PT.

Masters Ties for 13th at U.S. Olympic Trials

Wichita State junior Destiny Masters caps her season with a 13^th-place finish in the high jump at the United States Olympic Trials Saturday at Hayward Field.

The El Dorado, Kan. native cleared both 1.78m/5'10 and 1.73m/5'8" on first attempt before missing at 1.83m/6'0". With the top 12 making it to final and five women tying for 11^th, the women entered a jump-off where two cleared to secure their spot in the final. Masters missed in the jump-off, ending her junior season by tying for 13^th in the nation as the U.S. Olympic Trials double as the U.S. Championships in an Olympic year.

"I am super proud of Destiny," head coach Steve Rainbolt said. "A college season is incredibly long and incredibly demanding and as a multi-event athlete, she has done a tremendous amount between the indoor season, the outdoor season and the postseason, and she showed up here and competed super hard. She is disappointed that she didn't jump better because her mark is certainly below her standard, but I have tried to explain to her how tough it is to find enough gas in the tank to finish out such a long, demanding season like this one. I couldn't be more proud of Destiny's season."

Go Shockers - Masters Named Wichita Sports Commission College Female Athlete of the Year

Wichita State's Destiny Masters was named the College Female Athlete of the Year by the Wichita Sports Commission Wednesday evening at the 26^th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet at INTRUST Bank Arena.

The junior from El Dorado, Kan. became a five-time All-American over the course of a year, earning First Team All-American honors at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships with a sixth-place performance in the pentathlon and Second Team All-American honors in the 2024 heptathlon and 2024 indoor high jump and 2023 and 2024 outdoor high jump.

Masters also became a two-time American Athletic Conference champion, winning the 2023 outdoor heptathlon and the 2024 indoor high jump. She earned five all-conference awards over the course of the year, broke the Wichita State pentathlon program record and tied the Shocker indoor high jump record. She placed 13^th in the nation at the United States Olympic Trials to cap her junior campaign, and she will return to Wichita State for one remaining year of eligibility.
