So the Stephen F. Austin Invite is held in Kenosha, Wisconsin? Now I wouldn.t expect the to host this in Nacogdoches, Texas but a little surprised to see it in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The first couple of years this held in Houston, then Orlando, then Dallas. In 4 of the past 5 years it has been in Kenosha. I am sure there is a good reason behind that, just not sure what that is.

It does seem a little cheesy.

I do like me some good cheese. Perhaps the reason lies in SFA's roster. 3 bowlers from Wisconsin on the roster of 11 including 2 from Kenosha.

The Shocks go 3-2 in Friday's Baker Matches. A bit of an up and down day. Really struggled against Arkansas State, Apparently could not get that lane figured out. Finished off the day strong though with the win over #3 Youngstown State.

The Shockers enter Day 2 of the SFA LadyJack Classic in 10th place in total pin fall. So they have some work to do in today's 5 traditional matches.ke

The Shockers open the day with a nice 985 - 908 win over #4 Vanderbilt.

The Shocks keep the mojo going with a solid 1056-998 win of #9 Maryville

The Shocks fall to #21 McKendree 961-1014. Mary Orf struggle in this match rolling a 147.

The Shocks have a Bye in Round 4 ,meaning they bowl their 5 games but do not have an opponent. There are an odd number to teams (17) in the field.
The Shocks roll a 1,094 in Round 4 behind a 263 from Paige Wagner and a 256 from Mary Orf.

The Shocks beat #11 Stephen F. Austin 1,094 - 992 tp close out Saturday's action That matched their round 4 total for the best to the day. Mary Orf notched her second straight 250+ game rolling a 268 with Sara Duque Jimenez rolling a 222 as the Shockers mover up from 10th to 6th in total pins after Day 2. Heck of a response from Mary atter her 147 in round 3.

In Sunday's championship bracket the Shocks will face off with #4 Vanderbilt in the first of 3 best of 7 Baker game matches. Hopefully, the will be able to carryover the scoring momentum from their final 2 rounds on Saturday over to Sunday.

The Shock fall to Vandebilt 4-2. I think that eliminates them from contention to win the tournament. Not sure they can finish better than 5th at this point.

The Shocks knock off Stephen F. Austin 4-2 and will now face Vanderbilt for the 3rd time for 5th place.

Vanderbilt sweeps the Shocks 4-0 in a match when the Shocks could just not get it going averaging only 188 over the 4 games. The Shocks will finish in 6th place.

The top 5 finishers for the tournament were:
                #1 Jacksonville State
                #9 Maryville
                #5 Nebraska
                #3 Youngstown State
                #4 Vanderbilt

The 17th ranked Shockers did finish ahead of #2 Arkansas, #7 Louisiana Tech, #11 Stephen F. Austin and #15 Newman.

In head-to-head matches the Shocks picked up wins over #3 Youngstown State (Baker), #4 Vanderbilt (Traditional), #9 Maryville (Traditional) and #11 Stephen F. Austin (1 Traditional and 1 Best of 7 Baker). The only head-to-head loss against a lower ranked team was to #21 McKendree (Traditional).#4

Possible the Shocks could move up a bit in the rankings.

Austin, #13 Tulane, #15 Newman, #17 Wichita State, #18 Sacred Heart, #24 Oklahoma Christian, RV UAB, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Emmanuel, Prairie View A&M, Jackson State, Southern, and Texas Southern.

The schedule of the tournament is as follows:

On Friday, the Shockers will matchup once again with #4 Vanderbilt. This past weekend the Shockers matched up with Vanderbilt 3 times, beating them in the 5 traditional matches on Saturday but losing twice to them in best-of-seven Baker matches on Sunday. They also face #6 North Carolina A&T in the first 2 of their 5 Baker matches on Friday.

On Saturday, with their opening match TBD, the Shocks will face RV UAB, #18 Sacred Heart, #13 Tulane, #7 Louisiana Tech

The Shockers are off to a strong start in their inaugural NCAA campaign, ranking third in the NTCA Power Ranking Index through this past weekend's matches. Wichita State's 17-8 record includes two wins over #3 Youngstown State and single wins over #4 Vanderbilt, #5 Nebraska, and #9 Sam Houston. Wichita State is averaging 205.0 pins per game, trailing only Jacksonville State (209.5), Nebraska (208.6) and Vanderbilt (205.4).

Would like to see the Shocks close out the fall on a strong note. Competition will resume on January 17th.

                    1. #4 Vanderbilit 1,018 - Wichita State 896

Off day and/or didn't adapt to lane conditions quick enough. Normally, would have won at least 3 out 4.

Saturday Traditonal Matches - 5 Games Each

                        1. Wichita State 1,039 - #15 Newman 980

Up and down day for the Shocks for sure and only manage to go 1-4 in match results as they lost twice with totals of 1,020+.

The Shocks fall from 6th to 7th in total pins heading into the Sunday's best-of-seven Baker match bracket finals. This is when the head-to-head results determine results.

Given the pre-season and current rankings, the only surprise is that WSU beat #15 Newman.

Woods Wins MVP, Shockers Finish 7th at Colonial Lanes

Ashtyn Woods earned her second career tournament MVP award as she Woods paced the field with a 224 average, rattling off games of 235, 226, 228, 204, and 227 to best Tulane's Emma Fetterman by six pins. Sara Duque Jimenez also secured a spot on the All-Tournament team for Wichita State, posting a 213.2 average that was highlighted by a 235 in her final individual game.

It was a frustrating first two days of the competition for the Shockers, who suffered five team defeats by 32 pins or less. On Friday, Wichita State started 0-3 with losses to #4 Vanderbilt (1,018-896), #6 North Carolina A&T (967-948) and Southern (955-944), before bouncing back with resounding victories over Jackson State (1,045-921) and Texas Southern (1,050-898). The Shockers carried that momentum into the traditional matches on Saturday, rolling past #15 Newman 1,039-980 to open the day. Four narrow defeats followed, however, as WSU came up short against UAB (998-944), #18 Sacred Heart (1,043-1,027), #13 Tulane (964-932), and #7 Louisiana Tech (1,053-1,021).

Wichita State entered bracket play on Sunday as the #6 seed and again comfortably handled Newman with a 4-0 victory. That set up a rematch against Tulane; the Shockers trailed 3-1 but rallied to force a seventh and deciding game that the Green Wave claimed, 211-202. WSU secured their seventh place finish by crushing UAB in the final match, 193-191, 214-192, 224-176, 222-159.

Granted that the All-Tournament team appears to be based solely on the performance in the 5 traditional matches on Saturday but if the Shocks are getting the MVP and a 2nd bowler on the All-Tournament team then you would hope for better than a 7th place finish. The Shocks seemingly need to find more pins for the bottom of the order.

Also, seems like they were pretty inconsistent this fall. For example, on Friday they bowled 3 poor Baker games followed by 2 very strong Baker games. In Saturday's 5 traditional matches the put up score of 1.039 - 944 -1.043 - 932 - 1,021.

Now that the have a couple of months off to work on their games perhaps they can find more consistency across the lineup for the winter/spring session. Obviously, you want to peak at the end of the season (mid-March to mid-April).
