Perhaps this is so, but I would be surprised - I would want some parent to tell me that boards like these are a significant part of the evaluation process. And beyond OTWHC with his background and experience, I think none of us have anything approaching "inside scoop." Instead, we just have our own set of prejudices, including OTWHC.

Shocks seem to be heading for a 6-6 non-conference records which is about as expected considering their schedule this year. Wins should be forthcoming over Grambling State, Northern Colorado, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

They host Kansas State who will be 5-0 when they visit Koch Arena although they have not played a real challenging schedule which might work in the Shocks favor. K-State is currently projected to be a Top 50 RPI team. They also play Wisconsin-Green Bay at Koch Arena at the end of December. Green Bay has been very good in recent years and right now is projected to be a Top 50 RPI team this year. Green Bay defeated both Missouri and Richmond in Cancun by wide margins and lost to James Madison by 3 points in OT. Green Bay squeezed out a close win over UNI in Cedar Falls 54-53 in their season opener. Two great opportunities at home but also two games where the Shocks will be underdogs.

That leaves the road game at SMU as the Shocks best chance to pick up that 6th non-conference win. Again SMU will not have played as good a schedule as the Shocks will have played. But considering this game is at SMU's barn it looks like a toss-up to me. Maybe the home-court advantage gives a slight edge to the Ponies.

Shocks can still salvage a very successful non-conference run depending on how they do against K-State, Green Bay and SMU. Any loss to Grambling State, Northern Colorado or AR-Pine Bluff would be cause for some serious soul-searching on the part of the Shocks.

I read this morning's Eagle; looks like Jody is prepared to keep sending a strong message to her team. The team definitely needs more than seven capable players to have success. The Valley is a tough grind. I would think the players will step up or I'm sure we'll see some turnover besides the six seniors. We need a good old fashion rear-end kicking of Grambling and build up team spirits and energy.

          From the Eagle article:
“Until our bench takes ownership of their role and shows investment in this program, you’re going to see people not dress,” Adams said. “You might see some people not travel.

“They have to earn their uniform, the right to travel, and the right to be part of this program.”
Not allowing a player to dress for a game strictly for basketball related issues would certainly be making a strong statement. Generally, I would think a Coach would only do that due to a lack of effort. I guess we will see tonight if Jody has reached that point with any of her players.

The addition of Kirk Crawford to the coaching staff has benefitted Jacobs the most. Jacobs played timid in the 10.3 minutes a game she averaged as a freshman; that mentality is long gone now.

“I just saw a kid playing with no confidence,” said Crawford, who specializes in working with post players. “Forget the knee injury, that didn’t even bother her anymore. The bottom line is now she’s playing with confidence.”
Looks like the addition of Coach Crawford to the staff has already paid some dividends.
