  • Shocker SB at UMKC

The Shocks play a DH at UMKC this Wednesday before their weekend series at Drake.

The Roos are in sixth place in the nine-team Summit League. Among common opponents, they have defeated Evansville, Missouri State and Saint Louis and lost two of three to North Dakota State who lead the Summit. In conference-only games, UMKC has an OPS of .614 with an opponents' OPS of .734. The corresponding numbers for the Shockers are .648 and .869. They have four hitters with an OPS higher than .700; we have three. Their team ERA is 2.45 while the Shocks ERA is 4.83.

The Roos have an RPI of 156 with the Shocks RPI at 193. The RPIs in the Summit League range from 77 to 271 while they range from 62 to 245 in the Valley.

While these game are obviously not must-wins, the Shocks need to play well (they did not this past weekend IMO) to get some confidence going to Des Moines.

There is a live video feed for the first game only. It is not clear if there is a charge associated with it.

The LiveStats link for the first game. I suspect the game ID on the link is increased by one for the second game.

Currently (top of second), I cannot get the streaming video.

Katie is in the circle for us, and we are getting the #2 for UMKC.

must be magic words to get the video feed to work. I don't know them.

Shockers 0-1 UMKC, after three complete.

A HBP, steal, wild pitch and infield single score one for the Roos in the second.

The pitcher for UMKC is Cinda Ramos, who pitched Olathe Northwest to the 6A State Championship last year.

Shockers 0-4 UMKC, after four complete.

The Roos score three more in the fourth. A single, error and single (some details omitted) load the bases, but then it appears we threw the ball around (trying to catch a trail runner rounding her base too far?), and everybody moved up a base, one run scoring. (But the hitter is credited with an RBI in the box score, so perhaps this was simply the throw to the plate.) A two-run single followed.

Katherine comes on to start the fifth and gets three ground outs to short.

                    Game One

                    Shockers 1-4 UMKC

Ramos had retired fourteen in a row following Melanie's single in the second (Sydney had a single in the first), but then came the seventh. Sydney's bunt single, Hayley's single and a HBP by Erin load the bases with no outs. Melanie's sac fly scores one. Brianne is the second out, Holly pinch-walks to reload the bases, but Layne grounds out to end the game.

Only four singles (two by Sydney) constitute the offense for the Shocks. Katie gave up three earned runs in her four innings, and Katherine had a nice two innings, only yielding a single and getting two strikeouts.

Shockers 1-1 UMKC, after six complete.

Sloan started this game and went three innings, quite possibly a planned outing. (And if so, quite possibly the same for Katie's four innings in the first game.) Katherine then came on to start the fourth.

UMKC scored in the third on a single, steal, bunt single, steal with the lead runner thrown out at the plate and a run-scoring single. The Shocks equaled in the sixth on Rachel's double, a sac bunt and a sac fly from Sydney. Ramos is pitching this end of the DH also.

The Roos had a runner thrown out at the plate by Kaitlyn in right to end the fifth.

The Shocks threaten in the inning but Layne's single cannot score Brianne from second.

We go to the ITB in the eighth.

                            Game Two

                            Shockers 3-2(8) UMKC

Rachel starts the inning on second base, the ITB procedure, and scores on an overthrow by the third baseman on a sac bunt. Erin eventually plates Danika with a two-out triple.

Sloan returned to the circle to start the eighth. The ITB runner scored on a groundout, but Sloan fanned the next batter to close out the win. Katherine gets the win with four innings of three-hit relief. The Shocks had only five hits during the game.
