Shocker SB v Missouri State

Today, the Shockers have their Pink Game to close out the season series with the Bears.

Missouri State continue to be led by Natalie Rose in the circle (a 1-0 one-hit shutout win in eight innings against league-leading Northern Iowa this past Sunday) and to struggle with their offense (a 1-0 win in eight innings etc.). We split the earlier DH in Springfield, Katie pitching a one-hitter but losing 1-0.

Rose will be a tough customer, but we need this win, especially after Evansville's victory yesterday.

Shockers with a somehwhat improbable 2-0 win over MSU this evening.

MSU's Natalie Rose probably outpitched Katie but the only stat that really counts is the final score.

Rose held the Shocks to 2 hits and did not walk anyone and only faced 3 batters over the minimum. But the Shocks parlayed a lead-off double followed by a 2-base error on the ensuing sac bunt attempt into 2 first inning unearned runs.

Katie meanwhile scuffled through the first 4 innings allowing 3 hits and 4 walks but getting the outs when she needed to. MSU went down in order in the 5th and 6th but a leadoff walk and a 2-base error by Melanie Jaegers at 3rd put the tying runs at 2nd and 3rd with no outs in the 7th. A grounder to SS lead to the runner at 3rd being thrown out at the plate. Katie got a fly to right that did not advance the runners, then fittingly Melanie Jaegers handled a grounder cleanly at 3rd to record the final out of the game.

MSU also had a runner from second thrown out at the plate in the 4th inning. Milnark to Carney to Bond.

Way to go Ladies. Way to battle Katie.

Didn't have a lot of chances to strand baserunners, but they scored 2 of the 3 they had with an assist from MSU.

UNI knocks off Bradley 4-1.

The Shocks now trail 7th place Bradley by 1.5 games with the Braves coming to town for 3 this weekend.
