  • 2012 MVC Women's Golf Championship

The Lady Shocks will tee it off tomorrow in Terre Haute at the MVC Golf Championships to be played over the next 3 days.

WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's golf team will head to Terre Haute, Ind. to take part in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, April 22-24th.

Shocks were picked to finish 2nd behind Missouri State: http://www.mvc-sports.com/golf/news/...n-womens-golf/

Looks like MSU was the unaminous pick to win the tournament with WSU, SIU, ILS and UNI bunched pretty closely in a group behind the Bears.

Shocks have beat MSU in one tournament they both played in this year. A 2nd place finish would be very helpful for the Shocks All-Sports Trophy hopes.

    Good Luck, Ladies.

Which, unfortunately, Missouri State leads - but barely.

Yes and they have an advantage over us in Baseball, Softball and Womens' Golf.

Shocks should have a an advantage in Men's Golf, and Women's Track & Field.

The Shocks are also strong in Men's and Women's Tennis and in Men's Track & Field. These are sports in which MSU does not field teams.

Baseball and Softball may be the key sports to how this comes out which is not good for the Shocks. It should be pretty close.

Shocket Ladies fall into a tie for 6th after round 2 of the MVC Championship with a 322 following the 311 they posted in
round 1 puttig them 20 shots out of the Top 3.

Daniela Rugeles who shot a 77 in round 1 did not post a score in round 2. Not sure if this was due to injury or illness. Nevertheless, the Shocks were forced to use Natalie Samb's 87 in round 2. Natalie shot an 88 in round 1 but was not one of our top 4 scores and wasn't counted. Hannah Martin also shot a 84 today, 4 higher than yesterday.

Bottom line is that the Shocks appear pretty much locked in to a poor showing which will do some definite damage to our All-Sports Trohphy hopes. MSU is currently in 3rd place but they are only 3 shots back of UNI who is in 1st.

Juniors Gretchen Huhnerkoch (151) and Hollie Weatherburn (152) have played pretty well and individually are currently in 7th and 8th places respectively.

Shocks finish in 6th place in the MVC Women's Golf Tournament, although they played by far and away their best round of the tournament. The simply had dug themselves to deep of a hole to make any difference. The Shocks finished at 933 (311-322-300), 23 back of the winner, Missouri State.

This was a very competitive tournament with the Top 5 places within an 8-shot ranges.

Individually Gretchen Huhnerkoch tied for 5th at 226 (77-75-74) and Hollie Weatherburn tied for 13 at 231 (77-76-78)

Hannah Martin finished at 238 (80-84-74) with a nice final round. Natalie Samb also played much better today finsihing at 252 (88-87-77).

Freshman Daniela Rugeles shot a 77 in round 1 and a 75 in round 3. However, she received no score in round 2. Not sure why. Perhaps she was disqualifed for some reason (signing an incorrect scorecard?) or perhaps she was ill. May never find out.

In any case, our chance for the All-Sports Trophy took a good hit with this finish, especially with MSU rallying late for the win.

GoShockers.com confirmed that Daniela Rugeles was disqualified from play in the 2nd round but it does provide the reason for the disqualification. Too many clubs in her bag, an illegal club, hard to say. It would be interesting to find out just for the heck of it.

Roughly how many shots did that cost the team? Do we know what she turned in on her card vs what we had to use on the back end?

@WuDrWu I'm not sure she whether she was DQ'd early in the round or after the round or what. I estimate that may have cost us 10-12 shots. Daniela shot 77 and 75 in rounds 1 and 3. Because of her DQ we had to count Hannah's 87 in round 2.

That's a lot of shots, but we finished 15 strokes behind 5th place Bradley so it really didn't make any difference in our placement although not sure what kind of impact it may have had on the psyche of the team especially if it happened early in the round.

Bottom line is we just didn't play very well. Had we played all 3 days like we did in round 3 we would have been in the thick of things. Of course, we may have played well in the 3rd round because the pressure was off.
