  • Shocker SB at Omaha

The Shockers travel to Nebraska for a mid-week matchup with Omaha on Wednesday at 4 pm.

The Mavericks are picks for fourth of the eight teams in the Summit League. Other members of the League on the schedule of the Shocks and scores of those games are South Dakota (0-3), Western Illinois (11-0), South Dakota State (8-7 and 7-1), and two games yet to be played against Kansas City.

The Mavericks have a record of 11-7 with losses to Nebraska and Iowa State, the only opponents who are not mid-majors.

Kamryn Meyer has been the Pitcher of the Week in the Summit twice this season. Her ERA is 1.13 with a WHIP of 1.08. She has struck out 93 in 55.2 innings but has also walked 40. Anna Chapman (2.84 and 1.48) and Sydney Nuismer (5.54 and 1.92) are the secondary pitchers. The Omaha offense is led by Jamie White (OPS of 1.345 and three homers) and Izzy Eltse (1.014 and four homers). Those seven homers are the total for the Mavericks.

The Shockers record is now 14-7. Offensive leaders are Sydney (1.538 and seven homers), Addison (1.452 and eleven homers), Zoe (1.167), and Lauren (1.145 and five homers). Bailey and Neleigh also have OPS greater than 1.000.

Even with the nice pitching in Lawrence, the pitching numbers are not that pretty. The best ERA on the staff belongs to Alison (3.86) and the best WHIP belongs to Caitlin (1.54).

Lineup: Sydney, Addison, Zoe, Neleigh, Lauren, Lolo, Krystin, Lainee, Wylie - the same recent nine - and Erin in the circle.

Kamryn Meyer, the ace for the Mavs, is their pitcher.

Sydney leads off the first with a double. The next three Shocks are outs, including two strikeouts. A one-out walk and wild pitch get a runner in scoring postiion for Omaha, but Erin strikes out the next two. Scoreless after one.

Another leadoff double for the Shockers, this time by Lauren. Lainee walks with two outs, but Wylie fans. Meyer now has four strikeouts. Anything you can do, I can do better. Erin strikes out the side swinging. Scoreless after two.

A single by Sydney leads off the third. Addison follows with a hard smash to the shortstop, hard enough that even she is the back end of a 6-4-3 DP. A foul pop out and we move to the bottom of third. Two groundouts and a strikeout for the Mavs. Still scoreless after three.

With two outs in fhe fourth for the Shocks, Lolo sends a flare to right for a single, but Krystin fans to end the Shocker half. Meyer now has six Ks. With two outs, Omaha hits a solo homer to take the lead. 0-1 after four. Erin has seven Ks.

Wylie is the second out of the fifth on a great diving catch by the shortstop in front of the left fielder. After Sydney is hit by a pitch, Addison cranks one over the center field fence. For the Mavs, 1-2-3 including two more strikeouts. 2-1 after five.

With one out, Lauren cranks the second homer for the Shocks over the center field fence. Another 1-2-3 for Omaha. 3-1 after six. Seven in a row for Erin after she gave up the home run.

Three up, three down in the Shocker seventh. A four-pitch walk to start the bottom half. Just ugh! Then another. The Mavs have a threat, and it is time for a conference. Erin stays in. Force out, strikeout, and then, with two strikes on the batter, Erin load the bases with a hit batter. But three more pithces and we have a game-ending K.

          Shockers 3-1 Omaha

Erin had a terrific outing. The home run was the only hit allowed. She walked three, hit one, and struck out eleven. The Shocker only had six hits, but two of them went over the centerfield fence. Sydney and Lauren each had two hits. Meyer fanned seven for the Mavs.

Interesting how some of these non P5 schools have some really good pitchers who can keep them in games.

A 2nd consecutive solid start by Erin. Hopefully, she has found what works for her and can continue to execute. Not sure how good of a hitting team Omaha is but allowing only 1 run on one hit over the full 7 innings is really good. Although Erin just had to make things exciting in the bottom of the 7th.

Sydney and Addison doing their thing but how about Lauren Lucas. She rocking it pretty good right now as well..

Sounds Omaha's #1 starter is pretty solid. Good to get the win against her.

It worked for me, but it was a "broken" stream - lots of little hiccups early on. The voice I definitely muted!
