Southeast Missouri State are the reigning back-to-back champions of the Ohio Valley Conference where they are the 2022 Preseason choice to repeat. There are ten teams in the OVC. The Redhawks record this year is 9-7 against mid-major competition. Rachel Rook is the returning Pitcher-of-the-Year in the conference. She has over half of the innings this year with a 3.00 ERA and a WHIP of 0.93 and 75 strikeouts in 53+ innings. Marisa Davis (2.44 and 1.50) has most of the remaining innings. Aubrie Shore (OPS of 1.178) and Kaylee Anderson (1.144) lead the offense.

Iowa are member of the Big Ten. Last year, the Big 10 played a conference-only schedule where the Hawkeyes were 26-18. This year their record is 11-5 with a 1-1 record against ranked teams. They also have wins over South Dakota State and Memphis. Denali Loecker (1.027), Nia Carter (.998), and Tristan Doster (.937) are the leading hitters. Loecker (ERA of 1.13) and Breanna Vasquez (3.23) have almost all of the innings.

Kansas has a record of 7-11. They have a win over Missouri State and are 1-2 against Nebraska. Ashlyn Anderson (1.111) and Lyric Moore (1.003) lead the hitting. Katie Brooks (3.96 and 1.75), Olivia Bruno (3.88 and 1.20), and Kasey Hamilton (5.55 and 2.04) all have noticeable innings.

The Shockers are now 11-7. Sydney (1.536 and six homers), Addison (1.293 and eight homers), and Zoe (1.110) lead the sticks. Caitlin, Erin, and Alison lead the innings pitched in that order. The best ERA on the staff of five is 3.73, and the best WHIP is 1.47.

        Not much of a game.

        Shocks up 10-0 after 2.

Shocks have 10 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks including 5 home runs (Sydney, Addison, Neleigh and Lolo-2). Lolo has 5 RBI on the strength of a 3-run homer in the 1st and 2-run jack in the 2nd. The Hi-Chews are flying this evening.

Addison stole her 21st base of the year in 23 tries in the top of the first.

Alison gave up 3 hits and hit a batter in the 3rd but escaped with a scoreless inning and the bases loaded. Only 1 of the hits made to the outfield but was erased trying to take 3rd base on the ensuing infield hit.

Lainee Brown makes it home run #6 for the Shocks leading of the bottom of the 3rd. Wylie Glover follows with home run #7. Time to go to the record books.

The 7 home runs ties a Shocker team single game record set vs Iowa State in 2014.

We have a new Shocker records. After Addison was hit by a pitch with 1 out Zoe Jones launched home run #8 making the score 14-0.

Here come the pinch hitters and the subs.

Shocks probably have one more at bat in the bottom of the 4th. Cassie Passwaters in for Lainee at catcher and Bailey Urban pinch hitting for Wylie. That's good to see. Shock fail to score in the bottom of the 4th.

        Final: Shocks 14 - SeMo 0

Alison with 5 scoreless innings giving up 5 hits (all singles, 2 of them on the infield), hit 1 batter, 5 strikeouts and no walks. Face 4 batters over the minimum.

Not exactly sure what to make of this game. SeMo did lose to Missouri State 8-10 this morning in the 10:00 game. They were 9-8 on the season coming into this game but nothing on their record that would have predicted the beating the Shocks put on them.

The Lady Shocks must have had mashed taters as their pregame meal.

Twelve hits for the Shocks: three doubles, eight home runs, and a puny single by some rally-killer.

Addison had the single in the 1st inning. But she promptly stole 2nd. So turned out to be the same as a double.

I knew it was Addison who singled, but I did not look to see what she did on the bases. Did not want to spoil the puny joke.

Note that, while Bailey Urban pinch hit for Wylie Glover in the bottom of the 4th, Wylie did re-enter the game to play left field in the 5th. So that would indicate that Bailey is not quite yet reay to go but perhaps getting close.

Addie bomb and it’s 1-0. That’s 10 home runs now in game #20.

                        Game Two

                        Shockers v Iowa

Sydney, Addison, Zoe, Neleigh, Lauren, Lolo, Krystin, Lainee, Wylie with Caitlin in the circle. Loecker is pitching for the Hawkeyes.

Addison has a solo shot in the first. Zoe walks and with two outs, Lauren has an infield single with both runners move up on a (throwing?) error. Lolo walks to load the bases, and an error on Krystin's ground ball scores two more. 3-0.

A 1-2-3 inning for Caitlin. 3-0 after one.

Sydney walks, steals second, and moves to third on a wild pitch. No matter. Addison's second homer of the game brings her home. Zoe walks and Neleigh has an infield single to first. The Hawkeye coach is not happy - 1B make an error on Krystin's grounder in the first and now this - she changes first basemen in the middle of the inning! Two more outs and it is 5-0 in the middle of th second.

Iowa has a double and single in the second but the runner is thrown out at the plate by Addison. 5-0 after two.

Opening the third, Krystin is safe at first on an error by the new 1B - just LOL. Lainee doubles her to third. Krystin is out in a rundown on Wylie's ground ball - probably going on contact - and Lainee moves to third where Sydney scores her with a single, Wylie moving to third. After Sydney steals second, Addison scores both of them with a single, advancing on the throw. Pitching change for the Hawkeyes. Addison moves to third on a throwing error on an attempted pickoff. Five errors now! After Zoe fans, Neleigh walks and Lauren follows with an infield single that scores Addison. Lolo is hit by a pitch to load the bases. Krystin grounds to first, and this time she handles it for the third out. 9-0 in the middle of the third.

An infield single and a double leads off the Iowa third. A wild pitch scores one and Neleigh's error scores another. A double and a third run in the inning scores for the Hawkeyes. 9-3 after three.

Five more runs for the Shocks in the fourth - an RBI single (to the catcher, no less) by Zoe and a Grand Salami by Lauren. All of the offense (three walks in there) after two outs with nobody on. A leadoff single for Iowa is wiped out in a 4-6-3 DP. 14-3 after four.

Another pitcher for the Hawkeyes in the fifth, and pinchhitters for the Shockers. Bailey fans for Krystin, Jessica walks for Lainee, Madyson runs for Jessica, and Cassie is called out on strikes for Wylie. Still 14-3 and Iowa needs four runs to keep playing.

A walk and a hit batter in the bottom of the fifth, but the Hawkeyes do not score.

                        Now 3-0 against the BIG10.

                        Shockers 14-3 Iowa

The offense was led by Addison with three hits including a homer and Lauren with three htis including her grand slam. Nine walks and five errors aided the cause.

Caitlin had a workman-like game, giving up six hits, one walk, one hit batter, and two earned runs.

Lauren Lucas has been a huge surprise the last few weeks. She just continues to mash.

Time to keep the focus and get revenge on KU for the L we took in Lawrence last year.

This is the kind of progress you hope happens as players move from their freshman year with limited action to their sophomore year. Doesn't always happen, but what you hope for.
