Jordyn Pipkin (R-Fr) on the mound today. I believe this is her first career start. Nine innings out of the bullpen this season. Should be fun!

Bailey Urban still sidelined. Tatum Long in right field instead of Wylie Glover.

Freshman battery mates with Jordyn Pipkin in the circle and Cassie Passwaters behind the plate.

SDS homers in the bottom of the first.

In the third, Sydney singles, steals second, and scores on a single by Zoe. 1-1.

In the fourth, Krystin singles and scores ahead of Lauren's homer. In the bottom half, Jordyn walks the bases loaded with no outs. Kenzie is on in relief and wild pitches one run in. 3-2 after four.

In the fifth, Neleigh and Lolo walk. Cassie moves them along with a sac bunt, and Krystin walks to load the bases. Wylie's sac fly scores one, and a single by Lauren scores another. A walk to Sydney reloads the bases, but Addison grounds out. 5-2 in the middle of the fifth.

Two doubles score a run in the Jackrabbitt fifth. 5-3.

Zoe homers in the sixth, and SDS changes pitchers. For the Jackrabbits, single, Sydney error, single, walk, and walk. Two runs are in, the bases are loaded, and Caitlin is in the circle. Another error by Sydney scores one and a sac fly that becomes a DP scores another. 6-7 and on to the seventh.

With one out, a single by Lauren and an error on Sydney's ground ball puts runners on. They both advance on Addison's fly ball out, the second out of the inning. Then an error on Zoe's grounder scores both Lauren and Sydney. 8-7 on gifts - not that the Shocks have not done the same.

Two singles with one out create an SDS threat, but Caitlin gets the next two batters.

          Shockers 8-7 South Dakota State

Among the nine hits for the Shocks are three by Lauren, including her homer, and two by Sydney and Zoe, including her home run.

Caitlin gets the win with her relief effort.

With the Shockers leading 6-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th Kenzie ran into trouble with a little help from her teammates. When the smoke cleared SDSU had scored 4 runs on 3 hits and 2 Sydney McKinney errors to take a 7-6 lead.

In the top of the 7th SDSU returned the favor as the Shocks scored 2 unearned runs on 1 hit and 2 Jackrabbit errors to regain the lead 8-7.

Caitlyn, who relieved Kenzie 6 batters into the 8th inning is trying to close it out in the 7th. After striking out the leadoff hitter Caitlyn gave up back-to-back singles (one of the infield variety).but got a fly ball out to right and a pop out to short to close it out.

Shocks escape with an 8-7 win.

Shocks making to many key errors and leaving too many runners on base (11 LOB in this game). With our pitching it looks to me like playing as clean as possible on defense and taking better advantage of scoring opportunities when they present themselves are going to be quite important. Looks like our games with be Yogi Berra games this year. They won't be over until they're over. Well that may not apply to the Oklahoma and Oklahoma State games.

              Game Three

              Shockers at Nebraska

No LiveStats yet. Twitter says Addie singles in the first followed by two strikeouts. Alison has the start and gives up three singles and a walk but no runs. The leadoff was doubled off first on a fly out to Lauren in right. 0-0 after one.

Finally, LS comes alive. With two outs in the second, Krystin singles and Lainee doubles to score one.

With one out in the Husker second, another error by Sydney and a walk set the stage for a three-run blast by one of the Andrews Sisters. A single and two walks load the bases for a grand slam by Nebraska. Erin is on to pitch. 1-7 after two.

Addison walks and Zoe doubles her home for one run in the third. Two walks by Erin, but of them is wiped out by a DP. 2-7 after three.

And Zoe gets thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch the double into a triple. Probably not a high IQ decision considering the score.

The Shockers are the victims of a DP in the fourth. Huskers get a two-run homer. 2-9 after four.

In the fifth, Wylie doubles and Sydney follows with a triple for one run. She scores when the Huskers boot Addison's ground ball. 1-2-3 in the Nebraska half. 4-9 after five.

Lainee reaches on an error in the sixth, but nothing else happening.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the Husker sixth, a single and error by Addison (I assume the ball went through her to the fence) empties the bases, and we have a runs-ahead ball game.

                    Shockers 4-12(6) Nebraska

Six hits by six different Shocks. Keeping with the theme, only six of the Husker runs were earned.

                          Game Four

                          South Dakota State v Shockers

Shuffled lineup: Sydney, Addison, Zoe, Neleigh, Lauren, Jessica DP, Krystin, Lainee, Wylie LF with Caitlin in the circle. Kniesche in the circle for SDS. She pitched the late afternoon game against Nebraska yesterday.

Two singles, one of the infield variety, in the Jackrabbit first, but no runs. Addison walks with one out and steals second with two outs. Neleigh and Lauren walk to load the bases, but Jessica is called out on strikes. 0-0.

SDS gets a single and a runner to third with two outs, but a lineout ends their second inning. 1-2-3 for the Shocks - Kc, Kc, Ks. Still 0-0 after two.

Then a 1-2-3 third for the Jackrabbits. Sydney reaches second on an outfield error, and Addison walks to lead off the Shocker third. Then Ks, Kc, Kc. Seven strikeouts for Kniesche, five of them called! Getting a pitcher's zone called? 0-0 after three.

A walk, single, groundout, and infield single scores a run for SDS. 1-0 in the middle of the fourth.

Jessica leads off for the Shocks and reaches second on an error by the catcher. Wylie walks with two outs, and the two runners advance on a wild pitch, but Sydney fans. Kniesche now has nine Ks. She has given up five walks but allowed no hits through four. 0-0.

Caitlin walks the first batter in the fifth, but gets the next three. Addison walks, the sixth for the Shockers, and Zoe singles, their first hit. Neleigh walks to load the bases with nobody out. Lauren doubles home two, and Jessica singles home two more. With one out, Lainee walks and Wylie singles to load the bases again. Pitching change for the Jackrabbits. For Kniesche, 124 pitches after 79 pitches in the later game yesterday - the well may have run dry. Sydney singles to score one, and Zoe doubles to score two more. Neleigh walks and the bases are loaded again. Lauren fans, but thirteen Shockers have come to the plate in the inning. 7-1 Shocks after five.

Three up, three down for SDS in the sixth. Singles by Jessica and Krystin lead off the Shocker half, but no one can move them around. Still 7-1.

With one out, the Jackrabbits get a double. Caitlin had retired seven straight. A strikeout and groundout follow. 7-1 Final.

                          South Dakota State 1-7 Shockers

Caitlin scattered six hits, walked two and struck out three - a very nice performance. Maybe every game she starts, she should be told it is the last game of the weekend.

The Shocks had eight hits with Zoe and Jessica each getting two. Those two plus Lauren each had two RBI.

That's what we've been waiting to see form Caitlyn in the circle. Let's hope that get's her going. flyingMoose my be right about pitching in relief not being something Caitlyn does well.

Good to finish the weekend on a strong note.

Addison stole her 20th base in 21 attempts in her 17th game of the season today. Addison is now #2 on the Shocker single season stolen base list. Emily Peters is tops on the list stealing 25 of 28 in 2006.

Addison is on pace to steal around 65 bases this season although I do expect her pace of stolen bases to slow down some over the remainder of the year.
