  • Shocker SB v Loyola of Chicago

The Shockers make their first home appearance of the season this Wednesday against Loyola of Chicago. We are a midweek opponent for the Ramblers between tournaments in Tulsa this past weekend and Stillwater next weekend.

Loyola is picked third in the nine-team Horizon League, a league you have heard of because of Butler MBB, who made the Final Four last year, and Green Bay WBB, who advanced from the Wichita Regional last year. The Ramblers have won the league title five of the last eleven years. They were 0-5 at the Tulsa tournament which opened their season, losing one of the games to North Texas, 12-9.

          Game recap:

Katie gave up a homer to the 1st batter of the game and then allowed 2 more runs in 3rd (with the last run on back-to-back 2-out doubles) to fall behind 0-3.

The Shocks had the bases-loaded with only 1 out in both the 1st and 2nd innings and failed to score.

The Shocks were silent until the 6th when they loaded the bases again, this time with no outs, on a Carney walk, a Shook walk and an Eckert single. Hayley Temple then cleared the bases with a double to CF to tie the game. Unfortunately, we unable to move Hayley past 2B from that point.

Layne Greenlee led off the 7th with a bunt single. Melanie Jaegers sacrificed her to 2nd but the Shocks could not come up with the needed hit.

Tie breaker rules were in effect in the 8th inning. UTA scored 2 unearned runs on a single and 2 Shocker errors to close out the scoring as the Shockers failed to score in their half of the 8th. Last out of the game was Holly Eckert attempting to steal(?) 3rd. The play was C to 3B to 2B. Not sure what that was about.

Katie Armagost went the full 8 innings for the Shocks.

Tough loss. Not cashing in on those early opportunities hurt.

Game 2: Loyola 9 - Shocks 6. Loyola picks up their first 2 wins of the season as the Shocks fall to 6-11.

Sloan Anderson went the full 7 innings but was hit pretty hard. She gave up 10 hits, including 3 doubles, a triple and 3 home runs. The Shocker defense contributed 3 errors also.

The long ball has been a real issue for Sloan this year. She has now given up 18 home runs in 47.1 innings of work.

Nine runs will almost always be more than our offense can overcome, although the Shocks did lead 4-3 after 4 and were tied 6-6 after 6.

Disappointing day for the Lady Shockers.

Keep the ball low and work the corners. If you get the corners. I think they have shown considerable improvement but hope they don't settle for it and strive for more.
