I was wrong. Caitlyn is getting the start again agains TAM-CC. In the first match up Caitlyn pitched 3 innings plus 1 batter giving up 3 hits and 3 walks. A lead off double in the 3rd came around to score for the only run Caitlyn allowed. One of those batters walked and was inherited by Hailey when she came on in relief of Caitlyn. Hailey got through the 4th unscathed. Hailey gave up 4 runs in the 5th inning, 2 of which were unearned as a result of 2 Shocker errors but Hailey also allowed 4 hits in that inning.

Caitlin steadies and gets a one-two-three second inning. Two walks in the Shocker second leads to a pitching change. Shortly thereafter, a three-run homer by Addison gives the Shocks the lead. 5-4 after two complete.

Nothing for nobody in the third.

Not sure Caitlyn will ever quite realize her potential. Shocks defense has been shaky at times this season.

Congrats to Butters for setting the new WSU career home run record with her 2nd inning homer becoming the 1st Shocker to reach the 40 career home run mark. Butters also extends her AAC career home run record.

Since the Shocks only played 27 games last year none of Butters achievements accumulated through the first 30 games this year need any explanation. Perhaps anything after that might qualify for an asterisk.

Not sure how long Butters record will last considering the start Addison Barnard is having to her career.

The Islanders threaten in the fourth with a single and a walk but do not score. Sydney walks with one out and steals second, but nobody can push her across. Still 5-4 Shocks after four.

In the Shocker fifth, a single by Neleigh and a walk to Ryleigh brings on Lombrano, the winning pitcher from the previous meeting of these two teams. No outs at this point. Lolo pops up to the pitcher (sac bunt?) and Ryleigh is doubled off first. A ground out ends the inning. After five, 5-4 Shockers.

For the Islanders in the sixth, singles and first and second with one out, and second and third with two outs. Bailey is on to pitch. A comebacker and the Shocks are on to the bottom half of the inning.

With one out in the Shocker sixth, Wylie singles and Sydney doubles to put runners in scoring position. Strikeout, strikeout and we move to the seventh.

A leadoff single is followed by a strikeout and a DP started by Kaylee who subbed in at second base at the start of the inning.

          Texas A&M-CC 4-5 Shockers

Caitlin gets the win, giving up four unearned runs on six hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. She struck out five. Bailey gets her first save of the year.

Home runs by Butters (two RBI) and Addison (three RBI) drove in the Shocker runs. Neleigh had two singles and Bailee had a double among the six hits by the Shocks.

Good job by Caitlyn to settle down after the rough first inning for her and the Shocker defense. Caitlyn made it through another 4.2 innings without allowing a run although she did have 2 runners in scoring position with 2 outs when BaileyL entered in the 6th to get the final out and then pitch a scoreless 7th giving up a lead off single before getting a strikeout and inducing a game ending double play. Caitlyn certainly was dominant but she got the job done in lunch pail effort. Good job by HCKA to bring in BaileyL when she did. Caitlyn might have got out of the inning on her own but if she didn't it would not have been great for her confidence.

Only 6 hits for the Shocks but the made them count. However, out of the 7 runners the Shocks left on base 6 were in scoring position so another 2 out hit here or there could have provided a little more cushion.

Decent start to the tournament for the Shocks.

Addison Barnard leading the Shockers in RBI with 13. Three players have 10 RBI each -- Butters, Neleigh and Ryleigh. However, Butters and Neleigh have played in all 9 Shocker games. Addison has played in 6 and Ryleigh in only 4.

Addison has homered 5 times in her 6 games and Ryleigh has 3 home runs in 4 games. Very unlikely they will keep up that pace thoughout the season.

In 9 games the Shockers have hit 22 home runs vs 2 for their opponents.

I'm thinking Erin will get the start against North Texas and Caitlyn against UTA on Saturday with BaileyL getting the nod on Sunday against Iowa State. Of course what I'm think is of very little importance and often doesn't collide with reality.

It appears that North Texas and #23 Iowa State are among the stronger teams at this Invitational. I think your speculation is quite reasonable.

                        North Texas v Shockers

This probably will be underway before I get back. Somebody can chime in if they care to.

The Shockers game still hasn't started. This the 3rd game of the day. The previous game is over so should be starting soon.

Scores from Saturday's first 2 games:

North Texas 2 - Missouri State 1 in 8 innings. UNT only managed 3 hits but MSU only managed 1 hit. MSU made 4 errors to none for UNT
Iowa State 6 - TAM-CC 3 Close game despite ISU out hitting TAM-CC 14-4. ISU did commit 4 errors to none for TAM-CC.

No live stats yet on the WSU-UNT game but Shocker softball tweeting that the Shocks put of 5 in the top of the first with UNT coming to bat in the home side of the first inning. Madison Perrigan playing in her 200 game as a Shocker today.

I was wrong again on the starting pitching. Though Erin might get the call in this one but BaileyL is in the circle for the Shocks. UNI gets 2 runners in scoring position but Bailey escapes with no runs scoring. Shocks lead 5-0 at the end of 1.

Shocks down in order in the 2nd and BaileyL pitches a scoreless bottom of the 2nd. E1 Shocks 5 - Mean Green 0.

Shocks on the attack in the top of the 3rd. Lead off triple by Ryleigh who scores on a ground out by BaileeN puts the Shocks up 6-0. Back-to-back-back singles by Lolo, Kaylee and BaileyU make it 7-0. Sydney adds an RBI single to make it 8-0 heading into the home half of the 3rd. UNT down in order.

Butters, Neleigh and Ryleigh due up in the top of the 4th but nothing doing for the Shocks. UNT scores their first run of the game in the home half on an RBI double. After 4 the Shocks lead is 8-1.

Shockers down in order in the top of the 5th. UNT threatened in the bottom half getting runners on 1st and 2nd on an infield single and a bunt single sandwiched around a ground out. The next batter ran the count full and then struck out looking. Do you think BaileyL had the guts and confidence to throw her changeup in that situation. She might and getting that on a full count would probably lock up a hitter. A grounder back to BaileyL ended the threat. Shocks still lead 8-1.

A walk and double scored a run for the Mean Green in the fourth. 8-1 Shocks after four.
