    Missed on my starting pitcher guess. Erin McDonald will get the start in the circle for the Shocks. Perhaps HCKB has Caitlyn Bingham as her #1 starter at this point and is holding her back so she can be rested for the Texas game. If that's the case an inning or two in relief would not hurt Caitlyn just to get an innining or two of work before taking on the Longhorns. Just a guess though.

    Freshman Sydney Nichols replaces Freshman Addison Barnard at 2B but is slotted at the bottom of the order with Wylie Gover moving up to the 2 spot. Freshman Jessica Garcia remains in the lineup at 3rd moving up to the 7 spot in the order from 8th in the Tarleton State game.

    Let's go Shocks.

      @GoShockersSB-8m

      E1| Shockers get 1 on in the top of 1st.

      WSU 0
      Lamar 0

      Looks like Lamar is the home team in this one.

      Wichita State Softball
      @GoShockersSB·11m.

      E2|@SouthPaw36_LoLo hit 2 home runs, a solo and a 2 run on the way for 6 hits and 8 run inning!

      WSU 8
      Lamar 0

      The Shocks release the Kraken in the 2nd. Is Big LoLo (Lauren Mills) on her way to a break season? Hope so.

      Based on the time between tweets must be another busy inning for one team or the other or both.

      Wichita State Softball
      @GoShockersSB·1m

      E3|@SouthPaw36_LoLo hits another, only this time it’s a 3 run home run! Shockers put up 6 runs on 5 hits in the 3rd.

      WSU 14
      Lamar 0

      LoLo gone wild. So if I'm following correctly that's 3 home runs and 6 RBI so far for LoLo.

      Wichita State Softball
      @GoShockersSB

      E4| Shockers tack on 4 runs on 5 hits.
      WSU 18
      Lamar 0

      Shocks need a new placekicker. Looks like they have missed all 3 extra point attempts.

      Okay, so they did pick up the last extra point. I'm beginning to think the Lamar win over Houston may prove to be an abberation.

      Nice job by Erin assuming she pitched the full 5 innings. 2 hit shutout.

        Other Scrap Yard Challenge Scores - Saturday Games:

        #8 Oklahoma State 11 - Texas A&M-CC 1 (5 Innings)
        #8 Oklahoma State 2 - North Texas 0 (North Texas playing Lamar at 5:00 pm today and at 11:00 am tomorrow)
        North Texas 9 - Lamar 1 (5 innings) Too bad we could not have had a game with North Texas instead of Lamar)
        Texas A&M-CC 13 - Tarleton State 3 (5 innings) Tarleton State lead 2-0 after 3 innings and then the wheels fell off the bus.

        Texas has had 16 games cancelled and 1 postpoined so far this season. As flyingMoose pointed out Texas will be opening their season tomorrow against the Shocks.

          Only video will be via Facebook Live at Barry N Lisa Herring. Maybe all season long. That is all we will get. Not absolutely sure, but very possible.

            A little surprised no box scores posted for today's games. No season stats posted on goShockers.com yet either.

            I was also a little surprised that LoLo became the 1st Shocker to ever hit 3 home runs in a signle game:

              goShockers.com Report

              Tarleton State Box Score: Shockers 9 - Texanns 3

              Bailey Lange got the start in the circle pitching all 7.0 innings. She allowed three runs on nine hits, while striking out nine batters.

              Freshman Addison Barnard got the start in her first collegiate game, and registered her first career home run. She finished 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored. Neleigh Herring went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

              Lamar Box Score: Shockers 19 - Cardinals 0

              Mills set a new school record with three home runs in the game, something no other Shocker had accomplished before. Two of her three bombs came in the same inning, an 8-run second inning for Wichita State. She finished 3-for-3 with six RBI in the 19-0 run-rule.

              Madison Perrigan drove in five runs behind a pair of doubles and Herring had another stellar outing at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Sydney McKinney drove in three of her own and Sydney Nichols plated the final two.

              Erin McDonald struck out a career-high 11 in 5.0 innings of work, allowing no runs on just two hits.

              Among the players who played in both games Lauren Mills was 3-5 (3 Home Runs) plus a walk and 7 RBI and an OPS of 3.067, Neleigh Herring was 6-7 (including a Home Run and 4 doubles) plus a HBP with with 6 RBI and a 2.732 OPS, and Madison Perrigan was 3-6 (including 2 doubles) plus a walk with 6 RBI and an OPS of 1.333. These three had 19 of the Shocks 28 RBI on Saturday. Those weren't the only video game type stats for the day. As a team the Shocks had an OPS of 1.359 so I guess Butters was a bit below average today. I expect those numbers to come back to earth tomorrow especially after the Texas game.

              The bottom 5 spots in the lineup agaisnt Tarleton went 0-13 with 4 walks and 3 RBI. In the Lamar game those slots combined to go 11-19 with 1 walk and 8 RBI.

              For the Shocker pitchers Erin McDonald's 11 strikeouts over 5 innings was pretty impressive. Erin only allowed 2 hits (a single and a double) walked none only faced 1 batter over the minimum in the game. In game 1 Bailey Lange wasn't quite as stingy giving up 9 singles over 7 innings but only allowed 3 runs, 1 of which was unearned as a result of a throwing error by Bailey.

              The Shocks only committed 1 error on the day. A 5th inning throwing error on Bailey Lange in the Tarleton State game. An odd inning for Bailey. She gave 3 singles and allowed a batter to reach safely on her throwing error but she did get 3 of her 9 strikes out in that inning but alos giving up 2 of her 3 runs in the game.

                I looked up Lamar's season stats to see how much they have struck out to try to get a feel fro Erin's 11 strikeout effort against Lamar. Lamar has played 6 games and has struck out 40 times. 23 of those came on Saturday with 11 against the Shocks and 12 against North Texas which were both 5 inning games. In their 2 games against Houston and 2 games against UTSA which included one 5 inning run game and one 7 inning full game against each team North Texas struckout a total of 17 times or an average of 3.54 times per every 5 innings. Small sample size but 11 stirkeouts in 5 innings was an outstanding performance by Erin as was the effort by the 12 stirkeout effort of the North Texas pitcher against Lamar.

                  Texas A&M-CC, the Shockers 11:00 am game on Sunday, run ruled Tarleton State 13-3. However, Tarleton State led this game 2-0 after 3 innings.

                  TAM-CC scored 8 runs on only 4 hits and 1 error in the 4th inning all coming after the first two batters of the inning were outs. TAM-CC was aided by 2 walks, 2 hit batters and an error by the Tarleton 1B which came with TAM-CC having scored 2 runs. TAM-CC added 5 more runs in the 5th on 3 hits, 3 walks and 1 error. 2 of the runs came after an error on the Tarleton SS with 2 outs. So 8 of the 13 runs scored by TAM-CC were unearned runs.

                    I was wrong again. Thought they might be holding Caitlyn for Texas but she is starting in the circle agains TAM-CC this morning.

                    Kaylee Huecker getting her first start and first game action of the season at 3B. Freshman Bailey Urban getting her 3rd consecutive start in RF and Freshman Sydney Nichols getting her 2nd consecutive start at 2B.

                      E5 | WSU 1, A&M CC 5 The Islanders plate four runs in the 5th to take a 5-1 lead.

                      @GoShockersSB

                      E6 | WSU 1, A&M CC 5 No movement in the 6th. It's going to come down to our final at bat in the 7th for a comeback.

                      I am assuming the Shockers are the visitors in this game since they are listing their scores 1st.

                      FINAL Time to forget about this one and move on. No. 7 Texas is up next

                      Yeah need to forget about this one I guess but it has to be classified as a disappointing loss. Are the Shockers really playing with face masks outdoors?

                          #7 Texas is the home team in this one.

                          Shocks down in order in the top of the 1st.

                          2 singles and a double in the 1st four hitters plates 2 runs for Texas in the bottom of the 1st. Erin retired the next two batters on ground outs.

                          In the top of the 2nd Bailee Nickerson with a 2-out ingle to left center but was thrown out at 2nd attempting to stretch it into a double.

                          In the bottom of the 2nd Erin retired the first to hitters but then gave up a double, triple, walk and home run as Texas scores 4 to take a 6-0 lead. Looks like the Shock are on their way to being run ruled.

                          Shocks down in order in the 3rd.

                          A triple and a single leading of the bottom of the 3rd plates run #7 for Texas. The runner on 1st stole second and advaned to 3rd on a throwing error by Butters and then scored on a sac fly to LF making it 8-0 Texas. After a walk two more fly outs ends the Texas at bat.

                          Butters and Neleigh walked with two outs in the Top of the 4th but LoLo struck out to end the inning.

                          Caitlyn is on in relief of Erin in the bottom of the 4th. Caitlyn gave up a 1 out single followed by a walk. On a double steal attempt Butters threw out the lead baserunner at 3rd. A ground out to 2nd ended the inning. Texas lead remains at 8-0.

                          Shocks go down in order in the top of the 5th and Texas wins 8-0 in 5 inning run rule game.

                          WSU 0-1-1
                          Texas 8-9-1

                          Not a lot of highlights for the Shockers. The Shocks did only strike out 4 times and Caitlyn did pitch a scoreless inning in the 4th.

                          This outcome is not as surprising or disappointing as the Shocks loss to TAM-CC earlier in the day.

                          Not really sure what to take away from the tournament other than it was good to get some games in.

                              Sunday Box Scores:

                              TAMCC Box Score

                              In the top of the 4th the Shocks replaced Caitlyn Bingham in the circle with Haley Martinez after Caitlyn walked the lead off batter. The first batter lined out to Neleigh at 1B and she was able to double up the runner who had walked. A ground out ended that inning.
                              The Shocks had a good scoring opportunity in the bottom of the 4th with the bases loaded with 1 out but Kayla Huecker pop out to the SS and Sydney NIchols struck out.

                              In the top of the 5th Haley gave up a lead off single. The next batter reached on an error by Sydney NIchols at 2B with the runner on 1st advancing to 3rd. The runner who had reached on the error stole second and went to 3rd on a throwing error by Shocker catcher Madison Perrigan with the runner on base scoring. Another single scored the 2nd run of the inning before Haley got the 1st out of the inning on a fly ball to left field. That was followed by a TAMCC double that put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. At that point they replaced Haley in the circle with Bailey Lange. Bailey promptly gave up a 2-run double to left field before getting a strike out and a ground out to end the inning. All 4 TAMCC runs were charged to Haley but only 2 were earned. Clearly Haley wasn't solely to blame.

                              TAMCC only out hit the Shockers 8-7 in this game although TAMCC had 3 doubles amont their 8 hits while the Shocks had only 1 double among their 7 hits. However, this might be a little misleading. Only 2 players in the Shocker lineup had hits. Leadoff hitter Sydney McKinney was 4-4 and 6-hole hitter Bailee Nickerson was 3-3 three including the Shockers onle extra base hit, a 1-out double to right field that advance Lauren Mills, who had walked to 3rd and then advance to score on a throwing error for the Shocks only run. Lauren walked twice in 3 at bats. Those were the only two walks allowed by TAMCC. Apparently they were being very careful with her after her big day on Saturday.

                              Shocker pitching allowed 3 walks while TAMCC pitcher gave up 2 walks and a hit batter. However, the Shockers struckout 10 times in this game to only 4 jfor TAMCC. In the Shocks other 3 games this weekend they struckout a total of 7 times. Apparently the TAMCC pitcher had something working for her. Wylie Glover, Madison Perigan, Kaylee Huecker and Sydney Nichols all struck out twice.

                              Texas Box Score

                              The Shocks were just pretty much overmatched in this one. Texas had 9 hits for 18 total bases vs the Shocks who only 1 hit, a 2-out single by Bailee Nickerson where she was thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch it into a double.e The biggest threat the Shocks mounted was in the top of the 4th when, with 2 outs, Madison and Neleigh worked back-to-back walks on full counts. However, Lauren Mills struck out to end the inning. The Shocks also put 2 runners on in the top of the on a 1 out walk to Jessica Garcia and a two out error by the Texas SS but Sydney McKinney grounded into a force play at 2nd for the final out of the game. The Shocks did limit their strikeouts to 4 in this 5 inning game with Wylie Gover striking out twice.

                              Erin McDonald pitched the first 3 innings giving up all 8 Texas runs, 7 of them earned runs. Caitlyn Bingham ptiched a scoreless 4th inning.

                                That is one of the things I noticed about Lauren last year - she takes a lot of close pitches which are invariably called a Ball. I find this a bit unusual for a power hitter.
