  • 2020-21 Shocker Women's Golf

The Lady Shocker golf team clearly needs some better weather to work on their games.

Finished dead last (15th) in their opening tournament, the Texas State Invitational, at 90-over par. OTOH, fellow AAC member Tulsa, won the Tournament at 5 under par.

The Shocker team consisted of 2 sophomores and 3 freshman. Clearly a team not ready for prime time.

Round 1 of the 2021 AAC Women's golf championship is in the books and as was pretty much expected the Lady Shockers are not a factor.

#31 UCF and Tulsa are tied for the lead at 5-over with #20 Houston close behind at 8-over.

The Shocks are in 9th place at 35-over 3 shots ahead of last place Cincinnati. Tulane is in 8th at 18-under.

Perhaps not a surprise the 2 northern most programs (Temple does not field a women's golf team) are trailing the field by a significant margin.

Both the Shocks and the Bearcats had only 1 of their 5 golfers shoot in the 70's. Cincy's number 1 player shot a 5-over 77 and Shocker senior, Michelle Ledermann, shot a 6-over 78 out of the #5 spot on the Shocker team.

The Shocks look to be in well over the heads as they now find themselves in 10th/last place in the AAC Championship at 71-over par. After leading Cincy the 3 shots after Round 1 the Shocks are now 9 shots behind Cincy after Round 2.

None of the Shockers shot a round in the 70's today. Their top 4 scores were all 9-over 81's with there throw away score an 11-over 83. On of the 4 players who shot 81 birdied 2 of her last 3 holes to get to 81.

Tulsa and ECU are tied for the lead at 18-over par with UCF 1 shot back and Houston 5 shots behind the leaders.

I reasonablg goal for the Shockers would be to try to keep the team score below 100-over par which will requre about a 20% improvement over their 1st two rounds.

Tulsa wins the 2021 AAC Women's golf championship at 24-over par 3 strokes ahead of pre-tournament favorite Houston.

The Shocks shot there best round of the tournament by a handful of strokes but they still finished last at 102-over par, a whopping 78 strokes behind Tulsa. The Shocks finished 18 strokes behind 9th place Cincy and 54 strokes behind 8th place Tulane.

Not sure if I should care or not but this is kind of embarrassing. I still say drop Women's golf and add sand volleyball. Serves the same purpose of meeting Title IX requirements and the D-1 required number of sports requirements and maybe provides a benefit to the volleyball program. Perhaps even saves a few bucks.
