Game Four - UTSA v Shockers

This game will start early also, but not by a lot.

Erin is in the circle, Butters is the DP and Lainee Brown is behind the plate. Lainee previously caught three innings against Lamar.

A walk and a single for the Roadrunners in the first but no runs. A Sydney single is followed by a sac bunt, but she goes no further. No score after one.

A single and a walk, but another scoreless inning for UTSA. Erin has already thrown 42 pitches. Nada for the Shocks in the second.

Two more walks yet no runs in the top of the third. With two outs in the bottom half, Sydney singles and Ryleigh is hit by a pitch, but Butters grounds out. No score after three.

Erin finally has a clean inning in the fourth with two strikeouts. Same thing for the Roadrunner pitching but with only one strikeout. No score after four.

UTSA open the fifth with a triple and sac fly to take a 1-0 lead. Two four-pitch walks follow, and Bailey is in the circle. Butters moves behind the plate to catch Bailey. An infield single and a hit batter scores another run. A second-to-short-to first DP, and the Shocks are out of the inning. Two singles by Sydney is the total offense for the Shockers at this point.

Nothing for the Shocks. 0-2 after five.

In the sixth, a two-out UTSA doubler is thrown out trying to make it a triple. Butters singles with two outs for the Shockers, but Neleigh flies out. 0-2 after six.

Whoa!! Both the UTSA coach and the prospective tripler were ejected last inning. Apparently they disagreed with the Out call a little too vociferously.

The Roadrunners get a single in the top of the seventh, but no runs.

Bailey gets a two-out double in the seventh. LoLo fans as a pinch-hitter to end the game. The Shockers go one-two-three three times in this game.

    UTSA 2-0 Shockers

Only four hits and no walks by the Shocker offense. Erin gave up the two runs on three hits and six walks over 4.1 innings.

    Not a very good day.

Indeed. Perhaps even a bit of an understatement.

Not quite sure what to think about this team so far but a long way to go.

Neither Bailey Lange or Erin McDonald have been very good in the circle so far. Caitlyn Bingham has been the most effective so far measured by ERA.

The hitting seems to been either red hot or ice cold so far. Perhaps that is a function of either seeing lousy pitching or really good pitching and not much in between.

Bailey Lange in the circle for the Shocks. Lauren Mills is the DP.

Dalilah Berrera in the circle for Texas State.

Shocks go down in order in the top of the 1st.

In the bottom of the 1st. With a runner on 1st as a result of a walk and 2 outs Bailee Nickerson makes a 2-base error in CF with the runner scoring on 1st and the batter ending up at 3rd base. Bailey Lange throws a little gasoline on the fire giving up a 2-run homer and the Bobcats lead 3-0 after 1 inning.

Still 3-0 after 4 innings in the books. Shocks are scoreless and hitless. The Bobcats only hit was the 1st inning 2-run homer.

Texas State tacks on 4 more runs on 4 hits against Bailey Lange in the bottom of the 5th before being replaced by Caitlyn Bingham with 2 outs and 1 on. The Bobcats now lead 7-0 after 5.

Shocks break up the no-hitter and the shutout in the 6th. A Sydney McKinney walk and singles by Madison Perrigan and Bailey Urban plate a run for the Shocks making it a 7-1 game.

Caitlyn retires the first two batters in the bottom of the 6th but then gives up a single and a home run and the Bobcats walk off with 9-1 run-rule win.

At this point the Shocks definitely are not living up to their preseason hype IMHO. One of the key components of those lofty expectations was that the return of Bailey Lange would make the Shockers a strong contender in the AAC. They may still be but to this point Bailey has struggled both in the circle and at the plate.

But it is not all on Bailey. Shocks only scored 4 runs in their last 3 games. We simply don't have the pitching to win with that kind of offensive production.

The Shocks fall to 5-6 on the season and Bailey falls to 2-4 on the season.

Does anyone wonder what has happened to Erin? She was throwing lights out at the end of last season? Lange also looks slow and has no movement. This pitching staff has the experience to lead this team. What is going on? Is the new pitching coach out of her league being so young? Why did HCKB make a change to her staff with such an experienced team returning?
