          LoLo. LoJo.

I was reasonably sure I could create some confusion. Or maybe I am the only one confused. :)

Small consolation, but the Shockers are the only team to score against the two mainstays of the Horns' staff.

The question is how low can you go! Volleyball has Lambo. I guess these ladies are the Limbo girls.

Game Six - Shockers v Colorado State

I am going to miss all of this one. I assume Caitlin will get the start, although Erin is a possibility.

Steady rain in the top of the 2nd. Shocks have 2 on with 2 out. They trail 2-0. It does not look pleasant at all and I think we're about to go into a rain delay.

Dustin Douglas, the home plate umpire, decides after looking at the radar to play on.

Sydney McKinney at the plate. She squares up an 0-1 pitch but right at the CF. Shocks also left 2 on in the first.

Bottom of the 2nd and it's 2-0 Rams.

Bailey Lange started and continues. She walks the 1st batter on 4 fairly close pitches. Ball 5. Checks the muddy cleats.....Batter swings at ball 6. Really ball 6. Sac bunt.

                  Runner on 2nd, 1 out.

Bailey throws one at the Bull mascot. Runner advances to 3rd. Clearly the weather is affecting her ability to throw. Ball 9. Ball 10. Ball 11. Walk. 1st and 3rd and 1 out.

                  HCKB is out.

Erin is on to pitch. Rain has let up but the dirt area is a mess right now and at a minimum it's affecting what we're thinking about pitching.

                  Looks like Erin is ready.

Really need to get out of this giving up no more than 1. Blue has a tight zone right now.

Ball 13. Grrrr. Almost throws the rise ball to the backstop as Butters makes a great stab. Finally a strike. 2-1. But the runner takes 2nd.

2-1 pitch slapped foul. Hard ground ball to McKinney who knocks it down but can't make a play. Throws to 3rd and gets the runner but 3rd base calls obstruction. Don't know about softball rules, but that's an easy out in baseball. Batter awarded 2nd.

So it's 2nd and 3rd one out. 3-0 Rams. Next batter pops out. 2 down. Wild pitch scores another. Death by paper cut. 4-0 Rams. Runner on 3rd.

Full count to the Rams batter Gamboa who is having a great tournament. Foul, foul, and ball 4 not even close. 1st and 3rd 2 outs.

Ruiz up and she drove in 2 in the 1st. Ball, foul, foul. Erin has to get her right here. Foul. Erin is going to have to come up with something extra and different to get this batter. Rise ball gets away from Butters and the runner moves to 2nd. 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs, 3-2. Erin gets the batter to pop up but Buck runs past it and the wind blows it off her glove...both runners score. Ugh. 6-0 runner on 2nd. 4 runs on 1 infield single.

Erin gets the next batter on a nice change but the damage is done. 6-0 after 2. 4 runs on 4 walks, 3 wild pitches, 1 passed ball, 1 error, an obstruction and 1 infield single.

This is an experienced team. They can hit. Let's see if they can respond in the top of the 3rd and get back in the game.

Ryleigh leads us off. Strike right down the middle. I don't mind looking at that one. Ball. Out in front of a ball down. 1-2. Pitcher is slow and should have had a ball called. Ump says no. Ryleigh grounds out to the pitcher.

Butters at the dish. Ball 1. Scorches one foul. Lots of talk from the color about wet balls. Rams seem to be dealing with the wet balls more efficiently than the Shocks (fairly). Change for a strike. Ball 2. 2-2. Butters waits on one but drives it foul down the right field line. If she squares it up it's going to be out of here. She's got this pitcher timed. Ball, count is full. Ball 4.

Rain getting worse. Not sure how much longer we're going here. Umps zone sucks. What's been a ball is strike one to Herring. Ball and it's even. This game is going to be called sooner than later. Herring drives a single to left. 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Mills up. Ball 1. Ball 2. Ball 3 called strike 1. 2-1. Mills gets a good cut but fouls it back. 2-2. Wow...where was that? Terrible call on ball 3. Full count and Mills singles to right. Bases full.

Rams meeting, hoping for a delay I'm thinking.

Bailey Urban and her .538 BA at the plate. Rams pitcher dots the outside. 0-1. Tries a bit wider, ball. 1-1. Upstairs. 2-1. Wide 3-1. Good patience. Urban absolutely DRILLS the 3-1 down the left field line for a 2 run double. Got a player in Bailey Urban.

Huecker up. It's 6-2 Rams. 2nd and 3rd still 1 out. Ball 1. Ball 2. Another mound meeting but no coach. Damn it. 2-0 pitch and she's fooled and pops out. That hurts. 2 down with runners still on 2nd and 3rd.

Bailey sends the 1st pitch back up the middle for a 2 run single and it's 6-4. Big hit by Lange.

Glover up with her .667 average. Ball 1. Pitching change. No idea if the game would be official or not. Jarecki is done after 74 pitches in 2.2 innings.

Ball 2. I guess that was high...ball 3. Strike 1 in the same place. SMH at this umpire. Glover drives one in the corner and the Rams right fielder makes a SPECTACULAR running catch that was a certain run scoring double or triple off the bat. Fantastic play to keep the score 6-4. Good answer from the Shocks in the top of the 3rd.

Erin back on in the 3rd. Ball, strike, ball, ball, strike, ball. Walks will kill you.
Pouring now. Ball. Ball. Ball. Strike, strike, foul, foul, foul, called strike 3.
Peyton Allen drives a 1-1 pitch deep and Glover can't get back on it and it's a double (2 base error maybe). 2nd and 3rd and 1 out.
Ball, ball, strike and it's 2-1. Ball just outside I guess. 3-1. Same exact pitch and it's strike 2. Count is full. Foul. Ground ball to short, interference called.

                      1st and 3rd now, and 2 out.

I guess that's a ball outside. SMH 1-0. Foul. Pop out and Huecker makes a nice play to end the inning. 6-4 Rams top 4th.

This game is a mess, but 3 defensive plays have made the most difference. The running stab to end the bottom of the 3rd by CSU that saved a run and the inning continuing on and the dropped pop up that scored 2 and allowed eventually 2 more CSU runs in the 2nd. Probably should be 5-3 Shocks.

Mckinney leads off the 4th. Ball just low. Strike. Fly out to center.

Buck at the dish. First pitch low and outside for strike one. High and outside ball 1. Strike 2. Ball 2. Buck pulls one just inside the bag for a long double.

Butters up. Ball. Fly out to right on a pitch that kind of fooled her. Not a great AB there.

Herring up and drives the 1st pitch down the left field line. The wind plays with it and the RF actually makes a nice play on a ball just foul. Neleigh actually just missed tying the game to be honest. But it's no runs on 1 hit, a double by Ryleigh Buck and it's 6-4 bottom of the 4th.

CSU adds a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th to make it 8-4. Shockers get 2 in the top of the 6th but that's it as CSU wins 8-6.

The Shocks outhit the Rams 10-7 but offset that advantage by committing 3 errors to none for the Rams. From Doc's description sounds like the Shocker pitchers also had a hard time finding the strike zone perhaps with field conditions being a big factor. That said CSU was playing in the same conditions and on the same field. In fact, CSU pitchers walked 9 batters to 7 for Shocker pitchers. 2 of CSU's runs were unearned. Perhaps the biggest stat was the Shocks left 13 runners on base vs only 7 for CSU. The Shockers had 40 at bats vs 33 for CSU. It appears like the Shocks simply failed to often to take advantage of their opportunities.

This was a disappointing loss but, hopefully, the Shocks will learn from it.

When Bailey went down early last year with her leg injury, her pitching was not up to her 2018 level yet. Consequently, I am a little concerned. It is early, she pitched against #6, the field conditions were miserable today and the effect may depend on your pitching style.

The Shocks are going to hit. It will take a couple of weeks yet to see where the pitching is.

Bailey Urban made the AAC Honor Roll this week with her OPS of 1.600 and .533 batting average. She had eight RBI and three doubles during the weekend in Austin.
