    I agree with this.

They were high last year when we were picked first or second and where did we finish. Coach always seems high, however, this dont apply to wins

I don't disagree. The thing is that based on past history a 0.500 performance is better than average.

Here are the career records of Shocker Women's Basketball Coaches:

Note: Larry Thye was a phys ed instructor at WSU when he was selected as to coach the women in 1974.

Even though we really have not set the bar terribly high, Jane has still managed to bring up the rear in career winning percentage.

I would think that 2007-08 is a pivotal year and the team has to show significant signs of improvement for Jane to continue as head coach.
Unfortunately, a 0.500 record and a 6th place MVC finish would be a significant improvement over last year. Of course, you would want incremental improvement every year until we are a consistent contender for MVC Championships I would think.

Jane has, herself, stated publicly that she knows Jim Schaus' patience is not everlasting.

Considering what they did two years ago (over achieve) it's not suprising that he'd give another year to her. Last year was a disappointment to say the least but the year before left hope that maybe some good could be done.

I'm going on record, right now. Win or lose, Whitney Rice has a rockin' bod.

Kind of amazing that only one coach in the history of the program had a winning record.

Yeah, isn't it. Kind of like we have a coach to went to an Ivy league school of Basketball, graduated Summa Cud Laude with a Masters in Basketball, that makes $28,000 a year. I put her right up there with the Thompson sons.

Snapshot...maybe i am dense, but i just don't get the analogy. Are you saying that our current coach was well-trained (Ivy League/summa cum laude/masters of basketball) but is not paid enough??? ($28,000).
                        Please clarify for me!

I think the AD should try to be consistent in evaluating coaches. Honesty (e.g. no NCAA problems) and success (on the court or field, classroom, etc.) should be expected. Look at women's tennis, VB, track & field, golf, bowling (I know, not under JS), baseball, etc.; they are usually successful. WBB is one of the sore spots for WSU athletics. Why??? Linda Hargrove had some good players and some good teams; I enjoyed watching some of her teams play. I don't enjoy watching Jane's teams play.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

No, I am saying for someone to have a pedigree in Basketball, like she has, she is underachieving.

Shantel sounds like a very good get for the Lady Shocks, at least on paper. At 5'10" adds nice and needed size at the guard position.

In fact, sounds like an upgrade from Sade Madden who will not be attending WSU as planned. (No offense to Sade).

Wonder why she was available this late?

Still, my expectations for this season remain very modest at best.

However, I hope I am proven dead wrong and will be eating a big ol' helping of crow at year's end.

No doubt Jane is on the hot seat and she knows it. If nothing else we may see some changes in the schemes and systems Jane has employed over the past few years.

                                :goshocks:
