Shockers Fall to No. 19 Jayhawks in Lawrence

    Quotes from the Coach
    Head Coach Colin Foster
"I thought we played well in defeat last week against Oklahoma State and played even better today. Losing is always frustrating but our opponents have been very high quality. These matches have exposed some areas we need to improve in, but also showed that we have all the pieces necessary to have a good year."

As has been his approach Coach Foster has put together another challenging schedule for his Lady Schockers tennis team. However, so far this team has not been up to the challenge as they have now dropped 4 straight matches to #11 Oklahoma State, #19 Kansas, Kansas State and Arkansas after an season opening win over Abilene Christian.

This coming Friday and Saturday they travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on Mizzou and Old Dominion.

The Lady Shocks feel to MIzzou 0-4 on Friday and the fell 2-5 to Old Dominion today with both matches in Columbia, Missouri as the Shocks now have dropped 6 straight to fall to 1-6 on the year, Definitely looking like a down year for the Lady Shockers fuzzy ball swatters.

The Lady Shocks drop their 7th and 8th straight matches in Tempe, AZ this weekend to fall to 1-8 on the season.

The Shocks were relatively competitive in the singles matches against #18 Arizona State but fell to the Sun Devils 2-5.on Friday.

Today Rice knocked off the Shckers, also in Tempe, 4-0.

The Shocks get to spend a little bit of time at home now playing Tulane and UT Arlington next Saturday at the Wichita Country Club and then host SMU and UMKC the following Thursday also at the Wichita Country Club. Hopefully, there are a couple of wins in there and the Shocks can see how the stack up to AAC competition as well.

The Lady Shocks break their 8-match losing streak on Saturday with a pair of wins over Tulane (4-1) and UT-Arlington (4-0).

Quote from Head Coach Colin Foster: "We've been playing well but certainly when you haven't won in a while it's human nature to have some uncertainty when it comes time to close out sets and matches. Obviously we handled that challenge well and were successful on many courts. Sarvi and Esther have really had some tough and close losses so for them to both get in the winners circle today was important, and Lingwei and Marta continue to play with confidence and they played well today. Finally, for Lingwei and Tina to renew their partnership from last year and go 2-0, including a 6-0 win against UTA, really set the tone for that second match that we weren't going to let our foot off the gas."

The Wichita State women's tennis team swept a doubleheader Saturday at the Wichita Country Club.

The Lady Shocks are at Louisville today. After dropping the doubles point the Shockers now trail with 2 singles matches still in progress.

Shocker Junior Lingwei Kong is leading 6-4, 2-6 and 5-3

Shocer Seniro Tiny-Ya Hsu is leading 7-5 and 6-5 at this point.

Shocks meed both matches to pull out a win.

Kong and Hsu make it true. Shocks win those final two matches to pull out the 4-3 win at Louisville.

Hsu won a tight 2-set match at #6 singles 7-5,7-5 to tie the match at 3-all and Kong's hard earned 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at #2 singles gave the Shocks the victory.

Shocks have now won 6 of their last 8.

                Head Coach Colin Foster
"We've said all year that this team is fighting and playing with belief, even in defeat. That continues to give us chances in these matches and today we came out on top."

"Sarvi and Lingwei are both capable of being the No. 1, but they have struggled at times in that spot. Sarvi responded so well today to a disappointing doubles match and she evened the score quickly. Esther and Tina continue to build confidence and Lingwei was incredible at the end. She saved five match points and stayed positive despite the pressure of her recent struggles. Win or lose, that was a character builder for her but I'm so glad for her and the team she got it done and can see that good things come with positivity and belief."

Not sure that they will do it soon. You know the pandemic is coming again. But this can become a good thing for them, you know, they'll have enough time to train and to get those results that they need to show in the next match. You know I have a friend who is playing basketball and besides that, she is practicing yoga. She says that yoga helps her to relax her brain and at the same time teaches her how to breathe correctly, 'cause you know in yoga the key is to breathe in the right way. She even shared this yogapractice.com site and told me to inspire myself and to start practicing it. Maybe I'll do that. What's your opinion?
