Slayton’s move to Andover from Trinity Academy will be one of the biggest storylines heading into the 2019 season. After earning All-Metro honors competing as an individual for the Trinity Knights alongside top rated Hanna Hawks, she joins the Wichita area’s top team. Slayton came in third in the Class 4A tournament last year and had a 75.2 average throughout the season.

I am not expecting a lot out of the Lady Shockers golfers this season. The Shocks graduated there two best and most consistent players from last year as Laine Evans and Gavrilla Arya completed their eligibility. Sophomore Hana Mirnik is the Shocks top returning golfer. She played in all 9 tournaments last year a finished with a stroke average of 75.92. The Shocks have 2 seniors on this year's roster. Michelle Ledermann played in 7 of 9 events last year averaging 76.2 strokes per round and Anna Chickering played in all 9 events with a stroke average of 79.03. So. Chiara Arya played in 4 events as a freshman averaging 79.75 per round. As a team the Shocks finished 9th in the AAC Championships 1 storke ahead of last placy Cincinnati.

Coach McCurdy has added 4 first year players to his roster and playing time is certainly up gor grabs. If 2 or 3 of these freshman prove good enough to make the 5-player team rotation that would be positive sign for the future.

The Lady Shocks will play 4 tournaments this fall and 4 tournaments in the spring before heading to Florida for the AAC Championships on April 19th.

The Wichita State women's golf team opens the 2018-19 fall season with the Payne Stewart Memorial on Sept. 10-11, held at the Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo.

        https://goshockers.com/news/2019/9/6...on-monday.aspx

Live scoring will not be available for the tournament. It is being hosted by Missouri State.

Sr. Michelle Ledermann (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia), Sr. Anna Chickering (San Diego, CA), So. Hana Mirnik (Celje, Slovenia), Fr. Aufa Rachmadya (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Fr. Mar Vidal (Barcelona, Spain) will be on the team scorecard for the Shocks giving them a distinctly international flavor. Not sure which slots each golfer will fill.

So. Chiara Arya (Jakarta, Indonesia), Fr. Valerie Routzong (Houston, TX) and Fr. Sarah Lawson (Olathe, KS) will compete in the tournament as individuals.

The field at the Payne Stewart memorial features 12 teams. Two former Missouri Valley Conference foes, Creighton and host Missouri State, are featured, as well as UTEP, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, McNeese State, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, and UMKC. D-II Drury University is also in the field.

The Shockers finished fourth at this event last year, with Mirnik finishing the highest of returning Shocker golfers at 12th.

The Shocks finished 4th for the 2nd year in a row in the MSU/Payne Stewart Invitational recording a 42-over 894 collectively over 3 rounds. Last year the Shocks shot 891 in finsihing 4th.

Senior Michelle Ledermann (75-73-71-- 219) and freshman Mar Vidal (75-74-73-- 222) both finished in the Top 10 to give the team a fourth place showing at the Payne Stewart Memorial.

Sr. Michelle Ledermann shot 75-73-71 = 219 (6-over) and tied for 4th on the indvidual board, Fr. Var Midal shot a decent 75-74-73 = 222 to tie for 10th place individually. I like that both ladies improved in each successive roungs. Unfortunately, the Shocks still seem to lack he depth they need to really compete for wins in these tournaments as Oral Roberts won relatvely easily at 21-over 873. MSU and UTEP tied for 2nd at 32-voer par 884.

I was most disappointed in So. Hana Mirnik. Hana shot 220 (7-over) in this tournament last year but could only muster a 77-78-78 = 233 (20-over) this year.

Fr. Aufa Rachmadya go of to a bad start shooting 81 in round one but she improved to 77 in round 2 and 73 in round 3. Hopefully, some of that slow start was due to 1st time in a college meet jitters.

Perhaps Hana gets back on track and Aufa can steady her game at a reasonable level.

The Shocks finished 14th out of 16 teams at the Coeur D'Alene Collegiate carding a team score of 61-over par, 45 strokes off the pace set by host and winner, Gonzaga.

The Shocks had no golfer's in the top half of the 87 player field with Sr. Michelle Ledermann having the best finish tying for 44th place at 14-over par.

Senior Michelle Ledermann (73-78-76 -- 227) finished as the highest-ranked Shocker golfer to conclude the Coeur D'Alene Collegiate on Tuesday.

          Not a good performance.

The Lady Shocker golf team continues to struggle at th Johnie Imes Inviational in Columbia, Missouri. The Shocks were in a 3-way tie for 11th in the 15 team field after Round 1 on Monday carding a team score of 21-over. Things only went downhill in today's 2nd round as the Shocks skied to 38-over and fell into a tie for 14th (last) with South Dakota.at 59-over par which is 56 strokes off the pace of tournament host and leader Mizzou's 3-over par.

Sr. Michelle Ledermann was pretty good in Round 1 shooting a 2-over par 74 but could only manage an 8-over par 80 in round 2 and sits at 10-over 154 . So. Hana Mirnik has been the best Shocker shooitng 76-75 for a 7-over 151 after two rounds.

So. Chiara Arya and Fr. Sarah Lawson really struggled in round 2 each shooting 17-over par 89. Sarah is now 30-over after 2 rounds, Chiara is 24 over and Fr. Aura Rachmadya is 18-over.

The Lady Shocks bounced back from a very poor 2nd round effort att he Johnie Imes Invitation with a much better 3rd round although they still finished 14th in the 15 team field and were far off the pace set by the leaders. The Shocks had their best round of the tournament at 14-over 302 which was a 24 stroke improvement over their 2nd round performance.

Sr. Michelle Ledermann got back on her game shooting an evern-par 72 in Round 3 vs her 80 in round 2 to finish tied for 28th at 10-over 226. So. Hana Mirnik had the steadiest tournament for the Shocks finishing in a 4-way ties for 18th with an 8-over 76-75-73 = 224 for the tournament.

The supporting cast 2 freshmen and 1 sophomore all improved quite a bit today combining to shoot 21-over par after combining to shoot 44-over par in round 2. Unfortunately, they all finished near the bottom of the individual scoreboard.

At this point the Shockers would appear to have only Michelle and Hana capable of being somewhat consistently competitive at this level. Hopefully, the Shocks will see significant improvement from young supporting cast as the season progresses but they have a long way to go.

The Lady Shocker golf team is finishing up their fall schedule at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, SC.

After two rounds the Shocks are in a 3-way tie for 13th in the field of 22 with a score of 26-over par 602 which is 27 points off the 1-under pace of co-leaders Coastal Carolina and Fresno State.

Sr. Michelle Ledermann at 1-over 145 (72-73) and So. Hana Mirnik at 2-over 146 (73-73) continue to play solid golf this fall and are tied for 15th and 20th respectively.

Unfortunately, as has been the case throughout this fall there isn't much support behind Michelle and Hana. The other 3 scorecards on the Shocker team are a combined 46-over par.

So. Hana Mirnik shot a 2-over 74 in round 3 and finished at 4-over for the tournament. Sr. Michelle Ledermann finished at 6-over for the tournament as a double bogey and a triple-bogey on the back nine pushed her to a 5-over 77 in round 3. Fr. Aufa Rachmadya had a very solid 1-over in round 3 but she finished at 13-over for the torurnament. Fr. Mar Vidal finished the tournament at 21-over and Sr. Annika Chickering was 27-over.

The Shocks are done for the fall with decidely mixed resutls at best. The start up again in late February.

Women’s Golf Signs Top Kansas Golfer

Andover senior Madison Slayton made her commitment (see post #4 above) to Wichita State official with the signing of her LOI today.

The Shockers have only 1 senior on their roster this year. In addition, the Shockers have no juniors on their roster this year. So the roster is pretty much set now for the next couple of years. For better or worse the roster is pretty unbalanced across classes. Madison will certainly have the opportunity to earn playing time as a freshman.

The Shocker women's golf team finished up today in the Mary Kauth Invitational in San Antonio and they struggled mightily.

Finishing 9th in a 9-team mid-major field with a whopping score of 967 which was 103-over par. Not sure I remember seeing a number like that from a Shocker squad. That score was 81 shots behind the winner, UTSA and 13 shots behind 8th place Belmont.

Of the 15 rounds played by the 5 Shocker players in this tournament the average score of 81.9. Only 2 of the 15 rounds were played under 80. Freshman Mar Vidal had a 77 in round 1 and fellow freshman Valerie Routzong had a 79 in round 2.

The Shocks lineup for this tournament consisted of 2 sophomores and 3 freshman. Senior Michelle Ledermann did not play.

Perhaps you just chalk this one up to youth but clearly the Shockers were not competitive.
