    Game Three

HCKB has shaken things up a bit. Hailey has the start, Lauren Mills is the DP, Adi Reese is in right, and Laurie has been dropped to the eight spot in the lineup.

A single by Sydney and a two-run homer by Butters put the Shockers on the board in the first.

A walk and an error are the only baserunners for UConn through their three innings.

Singles by Sydney and Butters and a passed ball put runners in scoring position with one out for the Shocks in their half of the third. Ryleigh then just clears the left field wall for a three-run homer. Kylie Gavitt is on in relief for the Huskies. An error and two walks load the bases again, this time with two outs. Adi then clears the bases with a double over the head of the center fielder. Shockers lead 8-0 after three complete.

The Huskies score in the fourth on a single and two-run homer to center. Back-to-back doubles to a gap score another run. Shockers, 8-3. The second and third outs of the inning were line drives to Adi in right (a nice catch off her shoe laces) and Kaylee. Hailey's mystery is being lifted on her second time through the lineup.

Ryleigh doubles with two outs, but Asea lines out to third to end the inning. 8-3 after four.

Lauren is on the start the fifth. A walk, a single and two-out, three-run knock (Marcelino again) and the Huskies close the gap. Shocks lead 8-6 as the game moves to the bottom of the fifth where Koshes (the frenetic one) enters the circle for UConn. She has a three-up, three-down inning. Still 8-6.

Lauren returns to the circle to start the sixth.

NOTE: There is a 315pm drop-dead time for this game because of the flight plans of UConn. All of this by conference rules. It is now 235pm as we start the sixth.

Two singles after one out and Erin is on in relief. A fly out and ground out and Erin is out of the jam.

Still 8-6 as the game moves to the seventh. A fly out, ground out and strike out and UConn will make their flight.

    UConn 6-8 Shockers

Hailey gets the win and Erin gets the save. Ryleigh had three hits including a double and homer. Both Butters and Sydney had two hits with one of those for Butters being a homer.

Shockers finally get a big hit. Sidney leads off the bottom of the 1st with a single and 1 out later Butters goes yard to center field puts the Shockers up 2-0.

Shocks being more aggressive although swinging at a lot pitches up and out of the strike zone.

Hailey in the circle has navigated 3 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit and 1 walk.

In the bottom of the 3rd Sidney again lead off the inning with a single and 1-out later Butter singles hard to left off the 3rd baseman. After a long battle fouling off 3-2 pitches Ryleigh gets one to her liking and drives it over the left field fence under the score board. That knocked Olson out of the game. Kylie Gavitt on in relief of Olson.

After Asea made the 2nd out attempting to bunt for a base hit Kaylee reached on an error by the 2nd baseman. Lauren and Laurie both walked to load the bases. Adi Reese who started in place of Bailee in and hitting in the 9-hole delivered a fly ball to center that just did clear the center fielder's gove to unload the bases and put the Shocks up 8-0. My guess is that the UConn center fiielder was playing the diminutive Reese somewhat shallow as she had run down severa Shocker fly balls to the fence earlier in the series.

Well I leave for 30 minutes and when I come back I see Hailey gave up a 2-run home and back-to-back doubles on the 4th to make it 8-3 and then Lauren comes on in the 5th and gives up a 3-run home run to make it 8-6. Both UConn home runs were by UConn sophomore shortstop Briana Marcelino, a really nice looking player.

A bit surprised Lauren comes out to start the 6th. Thought maybe HCKA might go to Erin McDonald. But perhaps it doesn't make much difference.

Back-to-back singles with 1 out for UConn brings the go ahead run to the plate. Now Erin is brought in. Erin gets a fly to medium depth right field and a slow roller to Laurie at short to get out of the inning with the 2-run lead intact...

Erin gets UConn in order in the 7th including a strike out of UConn shortstop Briana Marcelno to allow the Shocks to come away with 1 game in the series.

Buck Collects Second Consecutive Honor Roll

WICHITA, Kan.- For the second week in a row, Ryleigh Buck was named to the conference's honor roll.

Buck came up with a home run, five RBIs, six hits and a .545 batting average in four games this past week.

The Wellington, Kan., native tied her career high with three hits on Sunday against UConn, leading the Shockers to an 8-6 win. Buck co-leads the conference in fielding double plays with 10, tied with teammate Laurie Derrico.

This marks the third time Buck has been named to the conference's weekly honor roll in her career and the first time that a Wichita State player has been named to the honor roll for two consecutive weeks in a row since March 4. Caitlin Bingham was the last player to collect that accomplishment, winning the weekly award on Feb. 25 and then the following week.

Might be a good idea if the Shocks made a missing persons report for the Caitlin Bingham that received back-to-back weekly honors in February of last year. If they could find the Caitlyn it would be a big help.
