The Shockers add the Mean Green of North Texas to the cast of mid-week characters this year. They meet at Wilkins Stadium at 3pm on Wednesday for a single game.
North Texas is a member of Conference USA where they are a preseason pick for fourth among twelve teams. They had three selections to the Preseason All-CUSA team: outfielder Katie Clark, pitcher Hope Trautwein, and infielder Lacy Gregory, a returnee from last year's all-conference team.
The current record of the Mean Green is 13-9 which includes a win over a preseason ranked Texas A&M squad (who is now deep in the RV) and a loss to then #21 Baylor, also now in the RV. North Texas began their conference season this past weekend by taking two of three from Southern Miss who are slotted for eighth in the CUSA preseason poll.
Gregory (OPS of 1.258 and four homers) and Clark (1.153) lead their offense. Trautwein has half of the starts and has appeared in another half-dozen games. Her ERA is 2.03 with a WHIP of 0.97.
The Shocker offense is led by Butters (1.127 and four homers) and Laurie (1.080 and four homers). Erin now has an ERA of 1.91 and a WHIP of 0.92 to lead the pitching staff. Characterizing the staff after Erin is a bit problematic at the moment.
With the weather forecast, this whole preview may prove to be moot.
