The 10 seed Shockers take on 7 seed Tulsa tonight at 5:00 pm CT at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut in the 1st round of the AAC Tournament. I think this is a very good draw for the Shocks as only 4 days ago they pounded Tulsa 71-49 in Koch Arena where the Shocks looked good and Tulsa looked bad. Tulsa did beat the Shocks earlier in the year 49-63 in Tulsa to open AAC play. Hopefully, the recent game is more telling than the one 2 months ago. I like the Shockers chances in this one.
Other 1st round matchups include:
#12 Tulane vs #5 USF
#11 Memphis vs #6 Temple
#9 SMU vs #8 ECU
The winners move on to the quarterfinals on Friday. If the Shocks win they play #2 UCF tomorrow at 7:00 pm CT.

Jaida Hampton will not be available this weekend. She hurt her knee during the warmups before the Tulsa game and has a lot of swelling. Waiting for the swelling to go down before getting an MRI. Does not sound good and she obviously is done for this year.
Jada Peaock, who has not been playing much lately, has a gastro-intestinal issue and will not be available tomorrow.

Shocks have picked up 4 fouls in less than 2 minutes including 2 on Sabrina who heads to the bench. Sabrina picked up her 2 fouls in the 1st minutes of the game. Early fouls trouble has been an issue too often this season for Sabrina. At least the Shocks are somewhat used to dealing with that situation.

Tulsa 18-13 at Q1. No Shocker has more than three points.
23-18 at the media timeout of Q2. Maya has all five Shocker points in this quarter for her total of eight.
A three-pointer at the close of the half push Tulsa to a 34-26 lead, their biggest of the game. Maya with eight and Seraphine with five lead the Shockers who are shooting 33.3% and are only one of four from beyond the arc. Tulsa are 40.7% and 4 for 11 for 36.4% on three-balls.
At the media timeout of Q3, the Golden Hurricane lead is now 40-30.
Tulsa extends their lead to 47-35 at the end of Q3. Raven has nine, Maya has eight and Carla has added seven. Shooting 31% from the field is not going to do it.
53-38 at the last media timeout. The struggle will soon be over.
Seraphine scored seven in a row for the Shocks in the last three minutes to get the margin to nine but that is as close as they would get.
Tulsa 61-50 Shockers
Shockers only shot 31.4% for the game and 2-8 on three-balls. Seraphine had 13, Carla 10, Raven 9 and Maya had 8.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 8, 2019, 08:00 PM.

UConn's Katie Lou Samuelson will not play in the AAC Tournament due to a back issue. She missed the final game of the regular season at USF where UConn on won by 10. Not sure what the extent of her injury is but it sounds like UConn wants to give her as much time to mend as possible prior to the NCAA Tournament. Perhaps providing An teh AACAC teams a very slight glimmer of hope in the AAC Tournament.

UConn did not exactly struggle too much sans Katie Lou in the AAC Tournament. They continue to be undefeated forever in AAC play with a 92-65 win over ECU, 81-45 win over USF and a 66-45 win over 2nd seeded UCF in the Championship game. Ho-Hum.
Hopefully, Katie Lou will be good to go at NCAA Tournament time. UCF should be a lock to join UConn in the NCAA Tournament with an RPI of 15.
