    Tournament Central

Shockers pick up a pair of wins in Louisiana today as they run-ruled Southeast Missouri State 8-0 and the knocked off Abilene Christian 5-1

Bailey Lange only allowed 1 single over the 5-innings of the run-ruled shortened game against Southeast Missouri State. She also contributed a home run and 2 RBI to the cause. The Shocks made their hits count as they scored their 8 runs on 9 hits and only left 4 runners on base. Laurie Derrico was the only Shocker with multiple hits as she went 2-3. Lauren Mills, Asea Webber, Neleigh Herring and Ryleigh Buck all contributed doubles and a total of 5 RBI.

Caitlyn Bingham picked up the win over Abilene Christian going 4.1 innings while allowing 3 hits with the only run coming on a home run in the bottom of the 5th. Erin McDonald pitched a scoreless, hitless 2.2 innings to close the game out facing the minimum 8 batters and striking out 4. Sydney McKinney, Bailey Lange, Laurie Derrico and Wylie Glover each collected 2 hits accounting for 8 of the Shockers 10 hits. The Shockers did leave 9 runners on base in this one.

Not anything close to signature wins but solid performances against teams they should beat.

Shocks play La Tech at 5:00 pm tomorrow followed by Mississippi Valley State at 7:00 pm. They finish up Sunday Morning at 9:00 am against Fairleigh Dickinson.

    Other Friday Scores

Abilene Christian 2-10(5) Southeast Missouri State

Mississippi Valley State 0-15(5) Louisiana Tech

Clearly, this is not a particularly strong tournament. With Fairleigh Dickinson opening their season here, only La Tech should trouble the Shocks. After today, the Techsters are 7-0 including a win over then #17 Auburn last weekend.

Ideally it probably would have been better if these first two weekends had been flip-flopped.

The Shocks put a stop to La Tech's 7 game winning streak with a 5 inning 13-3 run rule win. The game was a bit closer than the final score might indicate. The game was tied at 3-all after 3 innings before the Shocks took a 5-3 lead in the 4th. In the top of the 5th the Shockers exploded for 8 runs and closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 5th.

It looks like Bailey Lange was the starting pitcher. Bailey had a 1 out single in tthe top of the 1st. After advancing to 2nd Addie Reese entered as a pinch runner for Bailey. Caitlyn Bingham entered the game to start the bottom of the 1st instead of Bailey. I don't think Bailey played again in either this game or the later game against Mississippi Valley State. Hopefully, it is nothing too serious.

Caitlyn went the first 3.1 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 hits and 3 earned runs to pick up the win. She hurt herself a bit by walking 3 and throwing 4 wild pitches. Erin McDonald had her 2nd straight strong relief appearance facing the minimum 5 batters over her 1.2 innings.

Neleigh Herring lead the Shocker attack going 3-3 including 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Lauren Mills went 2-2 plus 2 walks and 2 RBI. Laurie Derrico was 1-3 plus a walk and 2 RBI. Butters was 0-1 but did draw 3 walks.

In the Shocker 5th Neliegh and Ryleigh Buck were hit by pitches. Bailee Nickerson's grounder to short forced Neliegh at third for the 1st out of the inning. Sydney McKinney walked to load the bases. Caitlyn grounded to short but reached safely on a throwing error by the SS with both Ryleigh and Bailee scoring to make it 7-3 with Caitlyn ending up at 2nd and Sydney at 3rd. Laurie deilvered Sydney and Caitlyn with a double to left center to make it 9-3. Lauren and Butters walked to reload the bases before Asea Webber struck out for the 2nd out of the inning. Neleigh then cleared the bases with a double to center to make it 12-3. Ryleigh delivered Neleigh with a single to right to cap off the 8-run inning before Bailee struck out to end the inning.

The Shocks made their hits count in this one scoring their 13 runs on only 9 hits greatly aided by 9 walks, 3 hit batters and 2 La Tech errors.

The Shocks were not quite as dominant against Mississippi Valley State but did come away with an 11-5 win in the nightcap. Erin McDonald started and went 3.2 innings. After 3 scoreless innings Erin gave up a lead off walk and a home run in the 4th. After getting 2 strike out she gave up another home run at which point Hailey Martinez came on in relief. Hailey gave up a single before getting a ground out to end the 4th. Hailey gave up a run in the 5th on a single and a double but finished the inning. Caitlyn ptiched the final 2 innings giving up only one hit but it was triple in the 7th that scored in a fielders choice.

Laurie Derrico was 2-2 with a walk and Bailee Nickerson was 2-4. Laurie, Baillee, Neliegh Herring and Asea Webber all had 2 RBI in the game.

The Shocker did just about all of their damage in the 1st and 5th innings jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the 1st and tacking on 4 more in the 5th to answer the 4 runs MVS scored in the 4th and 5th.

The Shocks made their hits count again scoring 11 runs on 10 hits aided by 8 walks and 2 MVS errors..

The big question mark of the day, however, is what is the situation with Bailey Lange????????????????

        Shockers vs Fairliegh Dickinson

No Bailey Lange for the 3rd consecutive game although the Shocks should be able to get by without her against this level of competition.

Erin McDonald is in the circle for the Shocks to start the game. Shocks are the visiting team in this one.

Erin off to an excellent start. She has pitched 4 scoreless innings so far allowing on a 1st inning single and facing only 1 batter over the limit.

The Shocks have scored in each of the first four innings to grab a commanding 7-0 lead.

A Ryleigh Buck walk and a Laurie Derrico triple produced a run in the 1st to make it 1-0.

The second the inning started with a Madison "Butters" Perigan walk and a Bailee Nickerson single to left. Kaylee Huecker lined out to CF and Kasidee Eck struck out before 5-2 freshman Wylie Glover delivered a 3-run inside-the-park home run to make it 4-0.

A Lauren Mills 1-out walk followed by a Neleigh Herring 2-run home run upped the lead to 6-0 in the 3rd inning.

In the 4th walks to Laurie, Lauren, Butters and Bailee made it 7-0.

The Shocks failed to score in the 5th stranding Wylie who walked and stole second with 1 out. Erin gave up a lead off single but that was promptly erased by a 6-4-3 double play and Erin finishes the 5th still having faced only 1 batter over the minimum.

In the top of the 6th Lauren leads off with a single to right center. Asea Webber pinch runs for Lauren and steals second and moves over to 3rd on a throwing error by the FDU catcher. After Neleigh grounded out to 1st Butters singled to left center delivered the run to make it 8-0 and give Erin the opportunity to close out the game in the bottom of the inning. Erin gets a pop up to 2B and a strike out before give up her first walk of the day but induced a foul pop that SS Laurie Derrico caught to end the game as the Shocks finish off a 5-0 weekend.

The Shocker continue to get the most out of their hits scoring their 8 runs on 8 hits. Again the opponent proved to be charitable with 9 walks, 1 hit batter and 1 error.

Erin's 2-hit, 2 strikeout, 1 walk, scoreless outing today was the epitome of pitch-to-contact pitching as she faced only 2 batters over the minimum. With the exception of the 4th inning against Mississippi Valley State in which she gave up 2 home runs Erin was very good this weekend albeit against relatively soft competition.

Hopefully, we will hear something soon about Bailey Lange's situation.
