  • 2019 Shocker Softball Regular Season

The Shocks have issued there 2019 schedule.

At first glance the non-conference tournament portion of the schedule does not seem particularly tough overall. The other non-conference games including the mid-week games during AAC play are very good.

I do expect that the AAC will be very challenging. May not need to over do the non-conference SOS with the AAC getting 4 out of 8 teams into NCAA play last year.

I kind of like the way HCKB has structured this schedule.

"The non-conference schedule is all about preparing the team for the American Athletic Conference schedule," Bredbenner said. "When you have four out of eight teams in The American getting into the NCAA Regionals and four that are knocking on the door you have to be prepared to go to battle every weekend. We will get tested each weekend with great competition and different elements."
Just a reminder that the Softball Dinner and Auction is on January 12th.

The Online Auction has about 6.5 days remaining.

The home schedule for the Shocks should provide some good softball:

The first 19 games of the season are in 4 tournaments away from home in Charleston, SC, Ruston, LA, Arlington, TX and Carbondale, IL

The Shocks open at home on March 6 against Oklahoma State followed by a 3-game series against Nebraska on March 9th and 10th and a single game against North Texas on March 13th.

The go back on the road for a 5-game Tournament in Clearwater, FL hosted by USF (although the Shocks will not play USF)

They host Kansas on March 20th before opening AAC play at home against Houston.

Oklahoma State, a double-header with Missouri. a game with Oklahoma in addition to 3-game AAC series with UConn, ECU and USF round out the home schedule, In addition, the Shocks travel to Arkansas for mid-week game with the Razorbacks.

Here is what location can do for your early season softball schedule.

The Shocks play their first 19 games away from home and play 24 of 30 away from home before opening conference play. The Shockers do not host a pre-conference tournament.

USF on the other hand plays 29 of their first 34 games in Tampa or nearby Clearwater. USF hosts 5 pre-conference tournaments.

Your welcome Doc and thanks for the complement although I'm not sure I make much of an impact.

League Coaches Pick Shockers to Finish Second

Shocks getting a lot of respect from the AAC coaches.

The Shockers will look to replace 2018 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Mackenzie Wright, who hit .360 with four home runs, 10 doubles, 16 RBI and 39 runs scored. WSU returns a majority of its roster from a season ago, including all-conference selections Laurie Derrico (First Team), Bailey Lange (First Team), Ryleigh Buck (Second Team) and Bailee Nickerson (All-Rookie Team).

2019 American Athletic Conference Preseason Poll
        Team (First Place Votes) Pts.
        1. USF (4) 45
        2. Wichita State (3) 43
        3. Houston (1) 41
        4. Tulsa 29
        5. UCF 26
        6. ECU 15
        7. Memphis 14
        8. UConn 11

Point-wise, not much to choose from among the top three. Tulsa graduated their stud pitcher.

The Wichita State University Foundation is raising funds for the new Student-Athlete Success Center. This video is on Ryleigh Buck who has a full class schedule while playing softball.
