Looks like Fatima lost her opening singles match at the ITA Oracle Masters 3-6, 5-7 to Adrijana Lekaj of Pepperdine. Lekaj was seeded 16th and Fatima was seeded 17th.

Earlier Fatima teamed with Tulsa's Majed Kilani in mixed doubles for a 6-4 win over a team from Old Dominion and North Texas. They will move on to play the #1 seeded mixed doubles team this evening.

Shockers at the SMU Red and Blue Challenge

Results From Friday. November 2nd (1-5 in singles vs Tulsa and 1-2 in doubles vs SMU)

Results From Saturday, November 3rd (4-1 in singles vs Wyoming and 2-6 in doubles vs Tulsa and Wyoming)

Results From Sunday, November 4th (4-2 in singles vs SMU)

Seems like Fatima Bizhukova may not be totally healthy right now.

The Lady Shocks open the season with a 1-4 loss to Baylor in Austin, Texas.

                      From Head Coach Colin Foster
"There were a lot of positives to build on from today. Doubles obviously is something that we've taken a lot of pride in and played very well across the board. Baylor is always a very talented, physical team. I knew they wouldn't be fazed by dropping the doubles point and I give them all the credit for just outplaying us in the singles. We competed our best and were in most of the matches, just didn't have enough today. We'll bounce back and be ready to go tomorrow."

The Shockers will take on Middle Tennessee State in consolation action tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. CT at the Texas Tennis Center.

Update: The Lady Shocks did bet by Middle Tennessee State on Sunday by a score of 4-1 with 2 matches unfinished.

                      From Head Coach Colin Foster
"We were pushed by a very complete MTSU team. They really didn't have any holes in their lineup and I thought we did well to bounce back from a pretty physical match yesterday," said head coach Colin Foster.

I noticed that Fatima Bizhukova did not play against Baylor or against Middle Tennessee. I have no info on the reason for that.

The Lady Shocks, who continue to play without Fatima Bizhukova,. where whitewashed 7-0 by #11 Kansas at the Wichita Country Club on Friday. Kansas has players ranked #34, #70 and #109 in their lineup. The Shockers were competitive in the doulbles and in the singles matches against the ranked players but not so much in the other 3 singles matches.

Coach Foster generally challenges his team with a strong schedule which I think is a smart approach. It gives his team the best shot at improving and at making the NCAA Tournament. No word that I have seen on why Fatima is not playing.

                          Someone needs to ask Colin.

Shocks are in a battle today against 5-1 Missouri. We took the doubles point. After losing the #1 and winning the #3 (identical 6-2 scores) Sandra Honigova and Marta Bellucco took the #2 match and the point 7-6 (7-3).

Mizzou quickly took the #1 and #2 singles points.

Everything else is even or too early.

Marta Bellucco is close to winning the #3 singles up a set and a break. But the Shocks have dropped the 1st set in both the #5 & #6 singles.

To have any realistic chance, Lingwei Kong is going to have to win her 3rd set tie break against Ellie Wright of Mizzou right now.

And then depression set in......Lingwei drops the tiebreak and Missouri moves to 3-1 as Ellie Wright wins the match 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

Shocks drop a competitive match to the Tigers 4-2. Have to think if Fatima plays they would have won this match.

Yes, I assume Fatima would be playing #1 doubles with Marta and either #1 or #2 singles. It can make a big difference when you have to change up double's partners and when you have to move everyone up a level in singles play.
